Default Magic Extra ?

Well, I put the first flights on my Modeltech Magic Extra today. I got this plane to have a neat little 40-size 3D capable machine. So far I'm impressed. It's got a TT46, JR811 digitals and a JR 4735 on the rudder. CG is 4.25. But I have a couple of questions:

1- It seems to need a touch of right thrust. BUT this looks to be a daunting task as there is little to no room in the engine bay. Have any of you added right thrust and how?

2- It is very stable in a slow harrier up to about a 20-25 degree AOA. Any steeper and it starts wing rocking. Will moving the CG back help? I've been playing with reflexing the ailerons, but not much help there so far.

This plane is just fun to fly. Lands at an absolute crawl, nose high and rolls maybe 2 feet after touchdown. Takeoff roll of maybe 10 feet followed by a staight up vertical climbout as far as you wanna go, on a $80 engine. If it was covered in Ultracote or MoneyKote it would be a world beater. The cheap covering is the only thing 'bad' about this little plane.

Flew one with a Satio 65, pretty good performer.

Can you put a couple of washers behind the motor mount?

May screw up your mounting setup on the cowling.

Hopefully, the makers of these type planes will build some right thrust into them. H9 did a nice job on the Funtana with this.

This one had a small rock, however it was controllable. Also, it was swinging a 14 inch prop, that may make a difference, too.

Jim,
I am not sure about the right thrust issue on this plane, But I test flew one for a guy at the field today and put it thru its paces...

Harriers, Blenders, and water falls were acomplished by couple elevator and aileron. When elevator goes up ailerons go up and when the ele. goes down the ailerond go down as well. We set this one up at 75% spoilerons to 100% elevator. This worked out really well.

These manuvers were tried first with basic set ups and I really had to work at them to get them accomplished. I added the spoilerons and PRESTO!!!!! It was like Magic... everything was easier to do. Elevators, stable hareiers ( steering it around the sky with rudder) blenders flattend out to where it looked like it was spinning on a plate.

Some pilots will call this cheating, but if it works, do it...

hope this helps,,,,, Shane

I was thinking of buying one of these planes this weekend, I have a Saito 72 and a OS 46FX needing a home, what engine should I put on this plane?

I have one as well and i have to say that it is difficult to get the plane flat spin without mixing. Had to move the cg 5"+ rearward. It doesn't do really well upright flat spins but it will do one hell of an inverted climbing flat spin.

I still have a hard time with blenders, i've only got one out of the plane so far!!!!

Waterfalls are still tuff to get correctly, first revloution is not very tight at all but will tighten up if i play withe the throttle.

Inverted flight is brilliant, if anything it flies more stable inverted than it does right side up.

I find hovering to be a little unstable as well, but i am a little nervious as i have ruined two birds in a week two weeks ago. One due to mid tree collision and one due to damn nylon clevis.

This is just a throw around plane at $120, use the 46 fx, i have a tt46 with MCP and it hovers at under half throttle. Use the Saito on something more substantial loke a funtana or something.
