I'm ready to try my hand at 3D flying, so I bought a ultimate .40. I figure not too big, or expensive.im not sure if an OS .46 Lawill be sufficient, but I bought one. Anyone know if it will be enough? Keep in mind, I've been a scale flyer all these years, so I don't think I'll be doing any thing too crazy at first. Any suggestions on prop size? Thanks in advance to who ever kicks down some knowledge.

I had the 40 sized Ultimate from Airborne Models and it was an excellent sport plane and a blast to fly (I had an OS .50sx). It realy was a difficult plane to 3D with in that size but it is one of my favorite planes. I have the Carl Goldberg 60.5 inch Ultimate that will have a Syssa 30cc and I have a 50cc Aero Works Ultimate that I will get a DA-60 for. The larger Ultimates 3D pretty well. For .40 sized 3D, get a profile plane.

Use a 12.25x3.75 APC prop for that engine for your best chance at any 3D.

I probably should have done a little more research before buying this plane, but I figure this will get me a little more comfortable with a more aerobatic plane first, so maybe it's a good thing.by the time I'm ready for a true 3D plane, I'll be itching to build a new kit anyway. Aerobatics will be great with the Ultimate. I agree that 3D with it is not the best. A profile would be my first choice to learn 3D. A foamy from DWFoamies would be my second choice, a SPAD 3D would be my 3rd choice.

Don't see it as a mistake, but more of an oportunity. I did exactly like you... almost. I had yet to fly my trainer when I ordered my 40 sized Ultimate. I had the same vision that If I have this plane, It will do the same thing the big guys do. Fact is, it does not. It does everything faster though. Rolls are unbelievable. Spins and flopping are just rediculous. It is very difficult to harrier or hang on the prop compaired to it's larger bretheren. You will still enjoy it for what it can do. Keep it in close to you when you first fly it. those two wings mess with your orientation a bit at first. Keep just a hairs more speed on the landing and you will do fine.

I don't know if I expect any thing different, but I got the hog bipe, all star bipe, super sportster, etc.  do you think an OS 55 will fit? Maybe a better choice?i have one on a plane that I rarely ever fly.

I'm not familiear with the "All Star Bipe". None of the other planes you listed are 3D flyers. The 55 will fit in the Ultimate and it will be very fast.
