I picked up a used Aeroworks profile. I know this subject has been weel discussed, but the new search engine is awkward, so here are my questions:
BTW the plane came with all Hitec digitals and an OS BGX-1, in like-new (never-crashed condition) for about $450 - I think this is a reasonable deal.
1 - CG to start?
2 - Low rates throws? (High rate will be all I can get)
3 - I have an OS 1.60 waiting for a home. Is the BGX worth a try (it is huge, and looks very heavy) or should I install the 1.60?
4 - If I go with the BGX, is there a better muffler than the stock expansion muffler?
5 - Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
Leonard

You could call Aeroworks and ask them; they are nice guys, and helpful. It would also pay you to run a search on Aeroworks 300L Profile ARF.
Their manual says CG on the main spar; RCU users report further back locations.
Their manual says for Low, High and 3D rates:
ailerons 20 25 35
elevator 12 25 35 to 45
rudder 15 25 full (many RCU users trim the elevator to increase rudder throw)
Lots of expo on highest rates.
For the engine, I think it is a matter of what balances out right, and provides enough power to suit you; people speak well of the OS 160fx on this airplane, unless they have nose-heavy problems.
Happy harriers!

The 1.60 is perfect for this plane we have two of them.BGX is in my opinion is an outdated engine. If you talk to Rocco he will tell you they built this plane around the 1.60.

I agree that the power of the OS FX 1.60 is ideal for this airplane. I have one problem though. I have a Moki 180 on mine and it came out TAIL heavy. If my 42oz engine gives me a tail-heavy airplane what will the OS's 32oz due to it?
The Moki will eventually turn this plane inside and out. For now I'm still breaking it in -- only have 1.5 gallons and am barely getting 6700rpm from a Top Flight 18x10. Even so, she had no power problems on her maiden flight.
I wish I could say she had no problems on her maiden flight. Two landings have been mode on this plane, both virtually perfect float-in 3 pointers. On the second landing, while taxiing her back to the pilot area I noticed my prop replacing the club's grass mower. It seams the 2 perfect landings were too much for the butter-soft landing gear. I contacted AW and they are sending me a new landing gear set -- should have received 2 sets with the ARF kit, but didn't.
