I have been looking around the extra market and bought a Great Planes extra 300s 60 size and at 109.00 bucks for the kit it wasnt bad. I'm ganna put a 12 oz tank pull pull on the rudder and twin elevator servos on the tail to balance it out without lead(lead is my worst enemy when trying to hover....wieght) I'm definitly enlarging the rudder by at least 1.5 inches. Looking for a nose up knife edge.....
I am going to put a Ys 1.10 Fz in teh nose for some power. I mainly want to know is this to much or too little. Its a good engine and can make these .60 size planes hover and shoot up out of em. If anyone has any tips or anything to make this plane a wicked bad to the bone extra. Tell me. If anyone knows of anybad habits about it, anything, i want to know now before its in the air and to late. Anything at all will help. I havent bought the engine yet so if there's a better engine let me know. This plane is ganna be my first True Aerobatic(excluding profiles-kinda aerobatic ~{but only a 46 size and was no pull pull, old kit}.......ultra sports.....low wings) Eventually I want to enlarge all surfaces too.

It is an excellent plane. An all time favorite of a lot of r/c pilots but not for 3d.
I am building one right now. I wanted to modify it for 3D but its pretty much impossible. This kit was designed a few years before 3d became popular. It is a scale aerobat and thus doesn't have it moments and wing area fudged to make it 3d better. Also the airfoil is optimized for precision aerobatics (clean, sharp snaps) so high alpha flight (Harriers, walls parachutes) will be hard if not impossible.
I will damn sure hover with a YS 110 though!
I moved the hinge line forward 1/2 on the elevator, added 1 to the rear of the rudder. Build light and sand a ton and it should be light enough to be fun.
I have attached a pic of what an Extra that will 3D well looks like. Its from extremeflightrc.com. It is light, big wing area, fat round leading edge airfoil, huge rear flying surfaces. They aren't available just yet but I'm gonna buy one when it is...or maybe the YAK-54 in the same size...

Sounds great, as long as it hovers, harriers and snaps. That's all i need this plane to do. I might after i master this plane try that new plane you mentioned from extremeflight. I noticed the huge surfaces and saw your point. I will get the goods down on this plane and get the maneuvers crisp then move on. I will put the servos in the back to balance on the 110. I get the plane in on thursday and cant wait to start building. I'll post some pics and i was also wondering if you have any pics of yours being built. Are you going to increase the rudder size for nose up knife edge, pull pull ect??? If you are please tell me how? I'm not really sure but have read a couple places on it but no measurements? Thanks for all your info. Later,

I have one with a 91FX in it. It's great. You might wanna enlarge the elevators a little, and the rudder also. You'll have a great airplane that will 3D. It won't 3D as well as some, but I learned to torque roll with mine.

SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET!!! Sounds cool cool. I got it last Thursday and had a marathon build and got the wings done on Friday and Saturday. Just starting on the fuse. I think I'll fool around with the plane with few mods(pull pull rudder, high torque on the rudder and servos in the rear;dual elevator.) Not much but its a start. I'm ganna put the Ys 1.10fz on it. I only costs 350 on the omni site and on tower its 419!!!!! Its for 339 on the Cheif hobbies but it comes up as "not valid, or not in stock" I've already put 25 hours in it this weekend and want to get this puppy in the air by thanksgiving.......... I finished up the Fuse on monday and today, only a few more things to do(in that i mean a lot) I found this kit pretty easy to build, I used a squirt bottle to wet the balsa sheet on the fuse and worked out great, and hey haven't punched my finger through the sheeting!(a BIG FIRST!!!!) I'll mod the rudder and elevator later . Thanks for the advicem, ganna go build some more(gee im glad i have so much time to build !!!! and a HOLIDAY for me on monday YAHOO!!!Build build build. Back to the kit, all the parts came in great, I just labeled em and had no mishaps and built up near perfect!! I love to build this plane!!!
