Default Wobbly Flip 3d

I just started flying 3D with a Kyosho Flip 3D and find I can do many new and incredible maneuvers but never get a really straight flight. The planes wobbles in the air and looks as if it is floating. With a normal pattern airplane I can do less figures but I give a much better impression to observers. Is this normal with all 3d planes or is it just with Flip 3D?

Most 3D capable planes won't fly a pattern manuver as well as planes designed for the smoother techniques. Much larger control surfaces need to move very little for the plane to move in a direction other than that given in a control input. Control linkages without any slop and better quality servos that center better will help. If the plane is not balanced laterally this will cause other problems. It can be trimmed for one flignt speed however when the throttle is changed the trim also needs to be changed. The "floating" observation is the 3D mission just as a sportscar and family minivan serve different purposes.

What was said above is quite, right, but it is mostly just the flip 3d.

I'm quite baffled by how with upthrust it flies level, but still climbs inverrted??!?! even with a very nose heavy OR a very tail heavy CG ... still does the same thing!! And in slow flight it seems to sit tail down regardless of the cg?

my observations above were of a friends flip, no matter what he did (thrustline / CG ) it still handled inthe same way.. basically kick ass at 3d, but 'untidy' at pattern stuff.

Apparently taking the tips off it helps... YNOT is the one to ask. alternatively, alter the shape of the tips, personally, i think this is the problem/

Good luck.

Its the full flying rudder. It moves around a bit, even with the best linkage and if you fly it too fast, its very noticeable.

The tips removed do make the plane roll and knife edge better.

If you want a more positive flying plane with equal or better 3D capiblity, look into the Hype 3D.

I luved the Flip until I got a Hype. The Hype just flys better, as you described, a pattern plane has a certain feel with very positive respones and most 3D planes don't. They do some hard core stuff, however don't fly very well.

I flew my first Flip tonight. Saito 72, 605's all around, and it flew great. I don't see any of the issues you guys bring up, other than the roll coupling. This one has the tips, and rolls like crazy. I can't imagine needing more roll rate.

Great plane. Mine will go up tomorrow for the first time.

I also have the flip, it has the YS 63. Mine flies so smooth and pattern like. Much more so than my other 3D planes (U-can, Razzle, Fun World). The only thing I don't like is when landing it will try to balloon (feed a little down elv.) then just stop flying and drop. Anyone else seeing this? Maybe I am too tail heavy. By the way, it does the best waterfalls. Nate

Hey the first time i flew mine i did not realize how slow this thing would go before it stalled. It just kept floating and floating....suddenly dropped straight down....luckily i was only about 6" off the runway. Since then i have made myself input some down elevator and keep a little power on (using a saito 72) when landing so it will come in and not do the drop thing. I think it is very light and the wing just keeps going. With low rates and a not so fast speed as YNOT said, it will fly semi-pattern like. I love mine and soon as i unload some stuff i will be trying the Hype 3D. YNOT talked me into the flip before he had the hype and i love the flip. I cannot wait to try the Hype also lol.

Jon,
How is the saito 72 in the flip? I just ordered this combo and can't wait to get it in the air!

I have a flip(with the saito 72, good combo) also and i know what you mean about its wobbling. I dont tend to like the flip that much, my dad loves it. I tend to like the bigger and better planes that do great 3D and percision patteren.

THe Flip with the 72 is good. No rocket power out of a hover, but good.

I'll tell you tomorrow how one is with a 63.....

My flip is, as many have said, amazing at 3D but the bigest pile of s**t in the world at flying leval. ive only got 3 problems with min and once their fixed it will be amazing to fly:

1)i need to mix out KE
2) harriers still wobble loads (even with the lat balence correct, no tips and all gaps sealed
3)my own skills. lol

Flew mine tonight for the first time. YS 63 is not enough motor for this plane.

Rock solid harriers, plane is a blast to fly. Blenders up nice.....nice falling leaf.....excellent waterfalls. Needs more motor.

Only one problem.....balloons up on landing....other than that.....an excellent plane.

Funny, my experence with the Flip and the YS63 is different. Using the 13x4W APC I get great pull out of a hover.

I have used a 14x4 W APC, 14x4 Zinger and did not like either.

Of course I am using Coolpower 10 %, maybe I need a bit more nitro....

I may try a 13x4 W APC....

I think this plane needs a Saito 100....then it would be perfect...

I agree about the Saito 100. My Ys will not run unless it has 20-30 % nitro. I have had difficulties with my YS. If I could do it over it would be a Saito 100.

YSs need 20%.

Pugsley: for a YS to turn that prop youll need the 30% studd, try both the 13x4 and 13x4w.

does anyone know why my flip still wobbles in the harrier?
