Default refurbishing a Laser ARF

I was given an early Lanier Laser ARF from my brother and I've begun refurbing it. It was in good general shape, but here are the things I've done so far:

1) stripped the ugly decals off. Will put on a new/updated trim scheme.
2) begun taking the control surfaces off. I noticed a bunch of the hinges were lose. Looks like the original glue Lanier used has become brittle.
3) I bought new balsa stock to make new control surfaces. The original ailerons were only an inch wide. This plane was definitely made before the 3D craze started. I plan on making them 2 to 2.5 inches wide. I also will be making the elevator and rudder bigger.
4) I will be filling in the single servo hole in the center of the wing and cutting holes for dual aileron servos. The wing is solid white foam covered in a thick plastic sheet. It's odd.

Overall, this plane is in great shape. I am a bit disapointed in the weight, though. With my MDS 68 mounted and the electronics in it weighs between 7.5 and 7.75 lbs. I can't get an exact weight because my scale only goes to 7lbs, so I weighed the wing and fuse seperately. I am also not sure on which servos I will go with in the wing. At this weight, the wing loading (60 inch span) with the original aileron size was around 30 oz/sq ft. With my larger ailerons on I calulate the wingloading to be around 24.

Any ideas on cutting weight? At this weight with my 68, what can I expect to do? I'd love to put a 100 4 stroke in it, but I don't have cash for a 4 stroke. I've had good luck with my 3 MDS's and have been tracking a few MDS 1.48's. With my 68, I'm thinking of going with a 13x4 prop. I've tached one of my 68s turning a 13x4 at 12360. Thrust HP gives that a thrust of 12.35 lbs. In reality I've been told it is about 3/4 of that number, so around 9.25 lbs of thrust.

Suggestions?

Here's a before pic. The OS 4 stroke in the pic stayed with my brother. I'll get an after pic as soon as I get the new trim scheme on.
