Default Best prop for OS 61 and max thrust?

I have an OS 61 (muffler no pipe) in a Zen 50. Wondering what prop will give me the most thrust for hovering, etc.
Are you fans of APC props?
What size/pitch?

Thanks,
Rick

Default Best prop for OS 61 and max thrust?

Rick,

I am a fan of APC props and think a 13X4 would give you the most thrust from your OS 61. OS recommends a 12X6 for the 61FX and going to a 13X4 or 13X5 should give you maximum thrust.

Cheers!

Default Try a 13x4 APC

I started with a 12x6 APC on my .61FX powered CAP. I quickly switched to a 13x5W wooden prop . Last night I used a 13x4 APC and found it to be the best prop yet. I believe that is what I'll continue to run.

Our planes are much different, but try the 13x4 APC

Perhaps also APC 13x4W, wider blade than regular 13x4. I use 13x4 in Irvine 53 and 14x4W in Irvine 72.

Default Best prop for OS 61 and max thrust?

I was having problems hovering a Pizazz with a 13/6. Plently of thrust, but it was hovering below the "pipe" with the std muffler. I changed the prop to an APC 12.5 x 6 and now I can control the hover much better. It raised the RPM about 600 over the 13/6. Actually did my first controlled torque roll the same day I switched to the 12.5 x6!

Default Ideal engine for the Pizazz??

I'm glad to hear the 60's have the power to do the 3-D stuff. I'm getting a Pizazz & wondered what was the best engine to go with?? Many recommend the Saito 72 but they are out of my budget at present. I have an Enya 90 as I heard that a saito 100 worked well. Let me know.

Default 14x4

If you want max thrust from a 60 use 14x4s. Zinger makes a 14x4 wood prop and APC makes a 14x4W that should get you into the neighborhood of 10 lbs thrust. The APC 14x4W isn't stocked very many places, but you can order them direct from APC on the web.

Myself and a friend have experimented with many, many props and the 14x4's are the best for thrust on strong 60's. They also are serious airbrakes on the downlines and on approach. The APC 13x5 is a good prop if you are willing to reduce max thrust a bit for a straight & level speed gain.
