Friends,
Just got a new Mayhem because of this thread and the recommendations by all.
Thanks to all.
I'll be using YS 91 FZ that was going into a NIB GP Spacewalker but I'm going with the Mayhem as my 3rd plane for more excitement.
Of course, I'll have it on low rates for a while before I'm confident enough to try anything more than the basic maneuvers.
The only thing I'll be changing will be the axles as everything else about the plane seems to be Okay according to all.
Metal gear servos are highly regarded as well.
Please remind me of anything else that I've missed.
Much appreciation to all.

Congratlation Root you will like the bird .I am still using the axle that came with my Mayhem.I haven't had any problem out of them yet.The plane lands so soft I thought I would try the axle that came with it and it is working out for me so far.( But I have another set for it if I need it ).I too am just now getting off of low rates too hi rates and it is a hand full. But I only been flying One Year now.I am using a six volt Battery in mine and I made a hole 1/2 way back of the servo too the tail and stood it up in a box I made for it.Every thing else is like the book.I have all steel survos except the throttleI am running a 150 Saito and at about 1/2 too 3/4 throttle my CG is at 5-3/4 and it lands nice.Hope you get your up and flying soon and let use know how things are with it.Have a good day at the field.

Wow! What can I say. This is an incredible plane that makes an average flier look exceptionally well. It can fly at a fast walk to jogging speed if you want, or throttle up the huge Saito 150 for some power (throttle management is advised however). The best part is that it can be flown slow while remaining very agile. It allows me to do things I would not dream of on any other plane I have flown. This was purchased for me to learn 3D. I think it will be more than sufficient, but even if I only fly it as a sport plane, I am hugely satisfied!

You guys with the Saito 150s, aren't you running too small of a prop with a 16x4 and 17x4. The smallest I feel comfortable to run is a 17x6. It has incredible power as well. Maybe you all know what you are doing. I am new to big 4-stroke engines.

Hi Bugleboy I have the 150 Saito on my Mayhem and I tryed the 16-6 Air Master and yes it proble is a little small but I went back too the APC wide 16-4 so I could land it easyer.A 17-4 would proble do as well but I had the 16-4 so I tryed it and like it.I too am new too these 4 strocks and too 3-D planes.I have only been flying one year as of July. And I agree with you on the performace of this bird it is ossome too fly and I love it.Hope too hear from you'll soon .

16x8 and 18x6 are recommended props, but I wanted something slower as well and still provide sufficient prop clearance. I am still a newbie too, just 4 years into the hobby.

No video of this plane anywhere? I guess I will have to post some, even though my humble flying abilities are nothing to brag about. Video was taken last night on my nineth flight on the Mayhem. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and Pee Wee Football practice was taking up the rest of the flying field. I will post a few clips shortly.
Hope to get a dozen more flights this weekend.

I am no pro but here is some video to start off the collection, as there doesn't appear to be any out there. Come on guys, if you have some, let's see it!

This is by far the best Nitro plane on the market. I am messing with a H9 Show Time 4-D and it is not as good as the Mayhem in manny ways. The thing that I really like about the Mayhem is its ability to slow down, it is the slowest flying 3-D machine by far. I wrote this for you guys who are wondering if you should get the Mayhem or something else. For $209 it is the best plane in its class by far. I always find myself comming back to my Mayhem, its that good. It could be the elevation where I fly and the 1160 sq" wing really makes a difference here. I just know that from the first flight I knew I had something special with the Mayhem. Its a total blast to fly and I always have fun when I fly it, I cant say the same for any other Nitro plane right now. The only other plane I fly that is as fun is the E-flite YAK-54. Its a little foamy but its big on thrills. The Mayhem is by far the most stable 3-D nitro plane I have seen it does so manny things well that you have to fly one and once you do you will be spoiled. I 5hink the next level is 30% or bigger.

Nice to know, Barry. I really struggled with the idea of waiting for the Showtime to be released or getting the Mayhem. I think I made the best decision!

Mine and my flying buddies Mayhem. Mine is the first one with a Saito 150. His has a Saito 120. We are thoroughly enjoying ours! Only problem we are having is learning to harrier. There is too much wing rock. Of couse, like I said, we are "learning". Hovering is getting better all the time.
We made a number of flights together this weekend. Here they are all covered in oil.

Pair of fine looking Mayhems there. I'd love to seem them flying together. Do you ever get mixed up on whose plane you're fllying? The Mayhem is one of my favorite airplanes. That along with the UCDs and the Showtimes and well my Ultra Stick.
Thanks

Thanks!
I added white strips to the underside of my wing. The top is almost identical except Hitec v.s. JR logos. It would be harder if we were flying them high up, but that is what is nice about this plane, you can fly it slow and low.

Barry, you're back
.
I have to agree that the Mayhem flies nicely. When I had mine, it does wing rock quite a bit on harrier, but its slow flight characteristic was just phenomenal.
have you tried putting spoilerons on it to tame the wing rock? I'm sure it'll help a lot

Where do you guys have your CG setup? Maybe that's the cause of the wing rock. I had mine at 6.5 and I had no wing rock. But then again it wasn't a true high alpha harrier. It was more of a very slow fly by.

I think it is 5.5. It was the first number in the recommended 3D range. Maybe that is it.
Ours will slow way down. Someone could easily catch it by the landing gear. No joke. We have almost tried it a couple of times, but we aren't quite that crazy/wild.

Hi guys I have had problem's with my Saito 150 sence I have had it.At first it didn't want too Idle, Then it wouldn't run out like I thought it was sopose too and I have been getting fuel out from under my cowling and could not find where it was coming from untill this Sunday.I found a hole in mt line from the fuel tank too the fueler.I fixt it and haven't tryed it yet but I think it will more then inprove the way it was running what do you'll think? I have leaked fuel sence the very first time I flew the plane and the only dead stick I had was when the tube came off the muffler. The Mayhem has flwe with this leak sence the first day and it was on the bottom of the tube at the end of the pipe coming out of the tank and that is why I couldn't see it every time I chect for it.I just happen too pull on the tubeing and saw it.I replace all the tubeing and will fly it this week end and let you'll know how it goes.this was one reasion I was running the 16-4 prop too get the play too clim and pull. Now hopefolee I can go too a bigger prop we will see. Let you'll know later
Joe.

Friends,
What would you do if you were really planning on building your Mayhem this 4 day weekend and the servo distributor screwed up your order and you ain't getting the flight pack on time unless you pay for the overnite yourself???
I emailed the CO. and ther'es a fat chance in hell they'll compensate me -the little guy-
Should I just skip to the next step in the instruction manual then back track to the wing & servo/ CA hinge installation and wing glueing at a later date??
or Would you 'eat" the overnite shipping or would you hold out as a matter of principle??

If it was me I'd pay for the overnight shipping and let your supplier know that you know everyone makes mistakes and that it really isn't going to be a problem. (be nice) Then I'd build the airplane. This is such a small thing to get worked up about. No big deal really. You could live in New Orleans. Thanks

Barry,
You are totally right - I shouldn't sweat the small stuff.
root
PS................What do you think about my plans for my Mayheh:
I'm putting 4 Futaba S3050's (one 3304 for throttle) with a 6V 1400mAh battery.
Using a YS 91 FZ and a 16x4 prop (like Big Barry did).
