Default Need Help With Waterfalls!

I AM HAVING TROUBLE FINISHING WATERFALLS. I START BY PULLING VERTICAL AND AS THE PLANE COMES TO A STOP, I GIVE FULL DOWN AND FULL THROTTLE. THE FIRST HALF IS NO PROBLEM, THE NOSE QUICKLY ROTATES DOWN BUT THE SECOND HALF IN WHERE I START HAVING PROBLEMS. I HAVE TO KEEP FULL POWER ON TO GET THE NOSE TO PULL BACK TO VERTICAL, THE PROBLEM IS ONCE I GET BACK VERTICLE THE PLANE CONTINUES TO ROTATE. IF I TRY TO PULL UP ELEVATOR TO HOLD THE PLANE, IT WILL START TO ROLL OUT. I THINK THAT I NEED TO ADD MORE TAIL WEIGHT BUT BEFORE I GO THROWING LEAD ON THE TAIL, I WANTED TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE HAD ANY IDEAS ABOUT WHAT COULD CAUSE THIS. THE PLANE IS AN AW 300L 31% WITH A 3W 100. I HAVE 3D RATES AND PLENTY OF POWER. ANY HELP WOULD BE APPRECIATED.

Spindoc, From the description is does look like you will need a further aft CG (more tail weight). Look on the Horizon site for articles by Mike McConnville as follows

Jason Shulman's tape "Defying the Limits" is another great source as well as well as Frank Noll, Jr's tape "The Art of 3D".
Frank's tape is available from Carden Aircraft. Not sure where Jason's is available. The package has the following information:

Heres a little trick i've found waterfalls more manageable, don't use full power all the way round as the inertia will build up and make recovery difficult. Basicaly only add power (not always full power either!!) when the nose is pointing down so it can kick the tail under. Have you tried putting in right rudder as you add elevator as this can sometimes stop it torque roliing on the exit??
Just an idea, it works for me!!

I THINK THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS HAPPENING. I HAVE BEEN KEEPING FULL POWER ON AND THE PLANE WILL CONTINUE TO FLIP. IF I TRY TO HOLD IT WITH ELEVATOR, IT TORQUES AROUND. I WILL TRY TO VARY THE THROTTLE TO SEE IF IT HELPS. THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE!

I HAVE BEEN WORKING ON WATERFALLS ALOT THE LAST YEAR OR SO AND HAVE BEEN HELPING SOME FRIENDS ALSO. I CAN SHARE WHAT I HAVE LEARNED. FIRST OFF THERE ARE AFEW DIFFERENT WAYS TO DO A WATERFALL AND AFEW DIFFERENT ENTRYS AND EXITS.IT SOUNDS LIKE YOUR PLANE IS SETUP OK BUT DOUBLE CHECK YOUR CG. WATERFALLS LOVE AN AFT CG. THERE ARE TWO TYPES OF WATRFALLS THAT I SEE ADD PERFORM. ONE IS VERY FAST AND TIGHT AS THE PLANE ROTATES AROUND THE TUBE AND THE OTHER IS SLOWER AND MORE DRAWN OUT. THE FAST ONE IS FAIRLY EASY TO GET STARTED BUT HARD TO KEEP GOING FLAT AND TURNS INTO A KNIFE EDGE SPIN ALOT. THIS ONE IS OK TO START WITH BUT DOSE NOT REQIRE ALOT OF SKILL TO DO. TRY TO START FROM A HANGER WHEN DOING THESE. FULL DOWN AND FULL THROTTEL.THEN GUIDE WITH RUDDER AS THE PLANE GOES ROUND AND ROUND AT A PRETTY FAST PACE. YOU WILL NOT BE ABEL TO STOP THIS ROTATION VERY WELL AND DEFFINITLY NOT BACK IN A HANGER LIKE I THINK YOUR TRYING TO DO. THE SECOND TYPE IS SLOWER AND THE PLANE ROTATES IN A BROADER ARCH. THIS ONE ALSO REQUIRES THROTTEL MANAGMENT AND MORE PRECISE RUDDER AND ALERON CONTROL. IN MY 35% CARDEN EXTRA(LIKE THESE GUYS SAID THE CARDEN GUYS ARE GREAT TO TALK TOO) I USE 35 DEG. DOWN ELEVATOR TO DO THIS, NOT 45-50. AGAIN FULL DOWN AND FULL THROTTEL BUT THIS TIME CHOP THE THROTTEL ON THE BACK SIDE THEN GET BACK INTO IT ONCE THE PLANE IS COMING BACK AROUND AGAIN. THE PLANE WILL LOSE A SUBSTANCIAL AMUONT OF ALTITUDE ON EACH FLIP AND WILL LOOK LIKE A TIGHT LOOP WITH THE TAIL SLIDDING AROUND BEHIND. YOU WILL NEED TO FEED RUDDER AND AILERONS TO KEEP IT FLAT. THESE ARE THE ONES THAT YOU CAN STOP ON A DIME AND HANG ON THE PROP AGAIN OR TRANSITION INTO A HARRIER. THEY ARE VERY PRETTY TO SEE DONE RIGHT AND CAN BE TIMED TO STOP THE LAST FLIP AFEW FEET FROM THE GROUND. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THEM DONE BY A PRO GET FRANK NOLLS VIDEO, THE ART OF 3D. THATS HOW I LEARNED TO DO THEM SLOW. HOPE THIS STUFF HELPS. GOOD LUCK.
