I'm planning on getting a Zen 50, and having never owned a plane with retracts was wondering: do you have to have a special retract servo like a Futaba S136G, or can you use a standard servo like a S148? If possible I'd like to use a servo I already have. Thanks!

You have to use a retract servo because they stroke a given amount when activated, usually 180 degrees. If you used a regular servo, it would put a drain on your batteries as the servo would have to hold position. The retract servo actuates then is at rest until activated in the other direction. Of course, you still have to set up the linkage correct so the servo can make it's full rotation. I hope this helps clear up the situation for you. By the way, I have a Futaba 136G that I just got in a pattern plane that will not work with my JR radio system. For some reason, Futaba retract servos don't work on 6 volt JR systems according to Horizon. If you want this one, I will ship it to you for $30 delivered via UPS. A new one is $59.95 plus shipping.
