Opinion on Need for Wingtip Weight

I am finishing up a SuperHots (54" wingspan, 6 pounds) that will be used for all-round aerobatic flight. The plane is already covered and lateral balancing shows a need for only 10 grams on the left wingtip. I am trying to do a nice job with this plane; but I am wondering if 10 grams in this type plane is all that important or will even be noticeable.

Nice looking plane! I've wonder that myself. I see people at the field using wing tip weight. I just wonder how much good it does?

I think you would notice ten grams. When trimmed for level flight upright, it will want to drop a wing when inverted. It also won't track right through loops.

Try it without the wing tip weight, I really don't think it will make a noticable difference at all. You did a great job there, don't mess with it unless you have to. If after flying it a few times you see it dropping a wing then change it. I have never balance mine unless there was a really big difference and I have had no problems.
Nice Job

Good looking airplane!!
I believe in reducing the number of variables... Why let the model go out with a known problem, especially if it's easy to fix? While it may not cause a problem, seems to me that having the airplane balanced properly is a good thing.... If for some reason it doesnt track well in a loop, as tpstorey suggested... wouldn't it be nice to know it isn't a lateral balance problem??
My $.02

The plane should be balanced all the way around. You have a chance of inducinga tip stall on your heavy tip! Just add a couple of finishing nails secured with ca. all you will have is a dot!
