Hi guys, Thanks for all the help on learning to hover!!! I didn't get to practice this weekend due to the weather, however it did give me a chance to swap my fazer onto my new hitec flash 5X transmitter. Now I can make use of the flaperon and spoileron functions on this radio. My question is what percentage of each should I use? And for what maneouvers do I use flaps? and which ones use spoilerons? I have set the flaps at 40% travel and the spoilers at 30% travel. Is this a good starting point? I have also dialed 10% of down elevator on flap selection but nothing on spoiler!!! Do I need to dial in any up elevatorfor spoilerons? I didn't put any in because I figured that I'd be using spoilerons for maneouvers like the elevator, where I'm pulling in up elevator anyway.... Is this right?

Is this something new for the flash 5x. Mine doesn't do flapron/spoileron. It will do v-tail and elevon but no programable mixing to get flapron/spoileron. I would love to be able to set flaprons but no luck with the flash 5. I need to use my futauba 8u to get these functions. Am I missing something here?

it is the flash 5 system X transmitter, only brought it new about a month ago. If you use the GLIDACRO mode and put your ailerons on channels 1 and 5 you can use the three position channel 5 switch to activate flaperon (fully down) and spoileron (fully up) and the centre position is neutral. It also lets you program in any elevator travel needed when either are applied. Pretty neat for a low budget computer radio. Only paid $369 AUD for the transmitter, reciever, 4 x422 servos, switch and nicads.

Ahh, I'm not sure that is what you want on a fun fly. This is how it should work and how I have it set-up on my Sledge with an 8UAF.
The flaps should be linked to the elevator so that when you give it "up" elevator both ailerons should go down and when you give it "down" elevator both ailerons should go up. (about 50% of the max travel) This will give you tight loops and great waterfalls and flat spins (used most of the time) When you flip the switch to "spoilerons", up elevator gives you up ailerons, and down elevator gives you down ailerons. (good for things like harrier) You really want your flaperons/spoilerons linked to your elevator. I'm not sure a switch with full up/down is what you want.

The radio allows you to program a percentage of spoileron and flaperon when the switch is used. (i.e. 50% travel for spoilerons and 60% travel for flaperons. which is what I've programed in to start with) The ailerons also still work as normal, just from a lower or higher point depending on which one is selected. I also agree that linking the spoilerons and flaperon to the elevator in a proportional way would be better, however my radio doesn't allow for this. I just though that some spoileron and flaperon would be better than none. Espeacially the spoilerons as the fazer is very hard to stall, which makes elevators hard to do. I think once the spoileron or flaperon is selected and the correct initial elevator trim required is programed into these functions, (through trail and error) Pulling in more or less elevator will only effect the pitch of the aircraft. But only time will tell, as i haven't yet flown with these functions.

I finally got to fly the fazer on the weekend and test out the spoileron and flaperons. The spoilerons didn't work real well. The stalled to wing almost immediately and made the wing rock worse than ever before. Very hard to control in elevators especially. However I think this has more to do with the plane itself. I don't think it is really a 3d model!!! However the flaperons worked a treat. Very tight loops!! On high rates I think they were only about 6 feet diameter. I could slow the fazer down to a crawl without they slightest hint of a stall. I think in a bit of wind I could make it fly backwards..
This makes for really slow landings too.
I haven't tried any other thing with it yet, as I'm still they fine art of flicking switches while flying, and I've mainly been concerntrating on the hover. I want to try a waterfall with it but I'm unsure how to enter into it and what control imputs are needed? Can you guys help me out?? Do you think the flaperons will aid in doing a waterfall?
