How do you know how much right thrust to put in your plane to hover. I guess what i'm asking is how do you know when it right.

Default Hovering

About 2 degress is the standard. Some aircraft require a little more or a little less. If you start at 2 dregrees you should be ok.

What would be the characteristics of the plane in a hover with the right amount of RIGHT THRUST?

What would be the characteristics of the plane in a hover with too much RIGHT THRUST?

What would be the characteristics of the plane in a hover with not enough RIGHT THRUST?

Bob,
Trim your rudder first. Fly in headwind, keepin wings level, pull up to vertical..The plane should track straight up, u might need little bit of rudder trim..change thrust only if the airplane needs lot of rudder trim..

Now do a hover & notice the characteristics..With the right amount of thrust, u will need rudder for CORRECTION ONLY. U wont have to hold rudder all the time to keep the nose straight up.

With not enough right thrust, u will have to keep holding right rudder to keep the nose straight..in some cases the plane will still want to fly sideways to the left inspite of that right rudder input. (exactly opposite when right thrust is more)

hope this helps..
cheers,
mayur
