What is the best plane to begin in 3D flight. Keep in mind that I will be going from a duraplane trainer 40 so what is the next step. I have been practicing on my G2 a lot and think I am ready to get a 2nd plane. I was thinking about a You Can Do 3d but need some input as to where to go next???

The weston cougar is a very nice plane, it's only a stick and wing type plane, but it's very easy to hover, some lads fly them up the field. Not to pricey either. I've just bought a Kyosho Flip 3d and the cost of the aeroplane is about 30% of the overall cost, costly if you crash. Over here the weston are £100 artf and you don't need a rediculous engine for them, cheap to replace\repair if you crash em which I'm sure you'll learning 3d, they'll also take 3003's servos' not much either compared to the digi's that most 3d require to get the most out of them, hope this helped

For learning hovering, I can't talk about the foamyfactory 3DX..... The plans are free, the foam is a couple of bucks, the carbon fiber spars are a couple of bucks, 3 inexpensive servos, speed controller, brushless or 370 brushed motor on the GWS or MPI 6.6:1 gear box, a small 4 channel receiver and 3S1P 1200-1700mah Li-Po and you have a 3D trainer that you are not afraid to try stuff with.
Basically you end up with about 175-200 in a plane that if you break it when it goes in is simply a 2 dollar prop or a couple of dollars and some time to cut out another from the foam.....
A few hours of assembly time and you are back in the air. Suprisingly these darn things will take the wind as well.....the wind won't stop blowing in WI so I have been flying the darn thing in 15-20mph winds and having a ball.
It will hover with the 370 motor at around 1/2 throttle, will fly 30 minutes or more per charge, will torque roll, water fall, snap-roll, fly inverted, flat spin like nothing I have ever seen, harrier, roll, loop, cubans, immelmans, hammerheads...........the list goes on......
I have never hovered and have not gotten very far into the aerobatics unless I was way way up there, now I play with this thing at 3-25 feet for all of the aerobatics.....It most definetly gets my vote for 3D trainer!!!!!!!!!! The statement NO FEAR really does come into consideration here because you are not going to lose a large investment when (and mean when) you make a mistake......

dont go for anything to Airobatic as this is a huge step. The weston Cougar + west 36 engine would be a great pick as it is hard to get it wrong with it good luck

I've heard that Cougars can flatspin to the extent their desent is stopped and they "flatspin" hover.
Is this true?

Mugen,
IMHO, i would recommend gotting a low wing sport plane that is capable of basic pattern moves first, then move up to 3-D. Learn to hold a line, then a four point roll which is great for learning to use the rudder. Practice inverted stall turns to get used to belly in rudder use. Learn to truly control your aircraft first, then move on to the wild stuff. The 3-D that's most impressive is the 3-D that looks controlled and purposeful. Best of luck,
Dave

my second plane was a chriss foss acrowot, wasn't artf but flies brilliantly, will even flat spin inverted. But you can do all the pattern manouvers with it. With an MDS .58 mine has unlimited vertical. Quick to build to
