Freestyle Rush

Hi guys.
Do you think that puting in an OS 61 FX would be overpowering the freestyle? Im really stuck on which engine to go for because all the engines within the recommended range have that thing on the side of them that sticks out he side of the cowl. Whereas with this engine, it should only come out the bottom of the cowl.
Thanks

I have a piped, side exhaust Rossi 60 in mine and it's fantastic. Vertical performance is great, and CG works out well with no lead on board.
A 12 oz tank fits with a bit of a squeeze. I use an APC 14x5 to give good acceleration and climb, but keep the airspeed managable.

I guess I have been flying long enough to know what I expect from a plane, how I want it to fly and how to power it. I have flown a mates Rush with a Saito 72 and it was easy to fly. It didn't need much throttle management because you were either flat out or idle. (The Rush and engine combo was his second plane. I would have to say it was perfect for him. Don't get me wrong, he flew his trainer very well and I suggested he get a Rush after I let him fly mine.) This set up was good for sport flying but wouldn't fly F3A or pull out of a hover.

The Cyclone will handle the YS140FZ with ease. I would only open the tap with the nose pointing up. If the guy flying it wasn't very good at throttle management, I would agree with you. I think we have all stood in the pit area watching planes takeoff at full throttle and the throttle only goes to idle for landing. (except for jets, racers etc...you know what I mean) Actually, on the cyclones 2nd flight the throttle got stuck at idle. (my bad) If I had to fly the plane around with the throttle stuck wide open waiting for it to run out of fuel, I wouldn't have had a plane left.
IMO....if anyone is thinking of getting one of these planes....do it, you will love it.
Cheers

It used to be that in order to keep flying, you just about had to keep the engine running flat out.
Look at the old Goldberg Falcon 56. This model weighed anywhere from 4.5 lbs to 6 lbs. with the old, large and heavy radios. These models were first advertised as recommending a .15 to a .19 sized engine.
When you start out this way, even after jumping up to larger engines, you tend to use the throttle like a toggle switch. It wasn't until the mid Seventies that I finally began to get into power management. Lots of folks never have, as you noted.

what a great plane, tracks really well. cg is still at 100mm behind LE but will leave it that way for now. i have very little right thrust, might need to do somthing about that.

Hi
I have flown the freestyle for about 10 flights. CG is approx. 140mm want to move is another 10mm aft. Using ASP 91 FS and 14x6. To get the CG further aft, I have to put on some lead in the tail. Anyone flying with the CG above 140mm without putting lead in the tail?? Any klever modifications that's possible?
BTW.
I think i have to put in some spoilron mixing to get the harries steady....
Currently looking for a new plane with F3A and 3D capabilities.... anyone who knows how the freestyle handles compared to TWM Groovy 50 3D or the Vince EDGE 540? In theory, these planes should have more or less the same behaveiors.... just to have a backup plane or two... or is the rush a keeper so I should go and buy another one??? I'm quite happy with this one...

I have a Rush (Saito 82).
Very good pattern trainer and Artistic Aero flier.
Not so good at 3D compared to a dedicated 3D airframe.
I find mine quite hard to prop hang and it once fell out of a harrier K/E and went into a spiral dive. Lucky that I was a couple
of mistakes high!!
