Default Formula 3D flutter trouble!

Hi folks,

I've been flying my new Modeltech Formula 3d over the last couple of weekends, and am finding that I need to be real careful not to get elevator flutter, I know it's not designed for speed, but sometimes I can barely get it fast enough to knife edge without it fluttering. I'm using the supplied hardware and standard servos on 4.8v.

Another guy at the field who flies a Hype had a go and commented on the same thing. He also checked out the linkages and didn't think there was any more free-play than on his Hype that is also using standard servos.

Suggestions?

Chris

yes. first of all, i would reccomend 6v for your standard servos unless you want to go digital or something. see, analog servos will allow more flutter than digital servos will because analog servos will just give a set amount of resistance, depending on how far off it is. if it is just a little bit off center, it wont give it much resistance which saves energy but when there is enough force to keep it from getting back to center, that is a problem. your problem is that you are getting flutter because the flutter is not huge radical movements so the servos dont put up much of a fuss as far as trying to control it. my personal reccomendation is, if you dont want to spend a bunch of money on digitals, than go 6v and increase your mechanical advantage over the elevator as in move the control horn to the very top of the threads if you have that kind of control horn. if not, dont worry about it and just go to 6v.

what you wanna do is give the plane to me

set the ATV to max and play with the links till you get the movement required, that way you've got more servo movement for less surface movement, also more precise.

other than that join me and Carters in the prophang game, go low pitch and fly those KE's on power not aerodynamics

might as well wait till Woody then, they should be there.

i always find it strange that the Magnum flys ok with plastic links and 148's, try that on another plane and you'll be crying. i'm sure the Hype flys just great on 148's, maybe 3001's, but on Chris's Formula... noooooo..

i think this flutter is more than just standard servos on 4.8v.

Capiche FF wing on 3001's btw, flys fast and with no flutter or blow back that i see.

Chris,

Couple of questions for you.

The Formula's finished weight with the OS 70, ? (dry no fuel)

Your running APC 13x4 W, is there clearance for APC15x4W on the oem undercarriage ?

TY
Xup.......................... anyone going to Weston park this weekend guys ?[8D]

I don't quite get it guys. I can fly my funtana WOT with the 61 on it with JR 539 BB servos in it. Ok the 539 is a 4.7kg servo though and well quite honestly cheap. I pay R130 for a STD servo where as the 539 is R180. This is on normal 4.8v and the 539s are much faster than a STD servo. Ok I gotta admit one other thing I have Great planes ball link connectors with 4-40 rods on the back.
