A few of us are planning our first trip to TOC this year. Since we've never been before, maybe some of you could let me know which day(s) are the best to be there. It doesn't look like we'll be able to stay for the whole event. Thanks!

I've been twice..'96 and '00
In '96 I was there for the whole deal. I really liked Wednesday, a practice day. Not as much crowd, and lots of flying. And it was a nice day. The next day the wind blew everything away, the tents, what a mess! After that we usually went out about 10~11 and were able to catch the freestyle and noon demos, and stick around for as many rounds of pattern as we wanted.
In '00, I was just there Thur-Sun...and did about the same 10~3 type routine. Missed some of the flying, but I was staying up a bit past my bedtime
The schedule is about the same every day, of course they have the awards Sunday...
What I usually base my stay on is the airline schedules....I fly Southwest, and getting a Sunday flight out takes some long term early reservations. So does flying in on Friday. So I do the Thursday/Monday thing and watch the TOC at my leisure. Seems like I can always find somethig to keep me busy when I'm not at Bennett!

The format of the TOC has changed slightly over the years, and Wed is now a competition day. If you're interested in seeing everyone fly, then Wed and Thurs are good days. Just because someone doesn't make it to Sat or Sun doesn't mean they're not worth watching.
Wed, Thurs, Fri - Everyone flies. Cut to the top 14 for Sat.
Sat - Top 14 fly, cut to Top 7 for Sunday
Sun - 2 rounds each of Known, Unknown, and Free to determine the winner.
Given that the competitors have had 2 years to work out the details.. I think this will be a VERY competitive event.. perhaps moreso than previous years.

Is it know when the freestyle rounds are (morning or afternoon, etc.)?
the reason is, i'll be there with my wife, and she only likes the freestyle. for every hour of freestyle i take her to, she will willingly sit through an hour of pattern.......

I take that question to mean...."Are you flying to the event?"...I haven't been invited to fly *in* the event (and am not likely to be invited to do so anytime soon....hehe).
Yes, I'll be flying to TOC this year. I've watched the TOC2000 video tapes, and want to see it in person.
Hope to see ya there!

Probably will be there for Friday and Saturday. First time for me. If you spot a guy with a red and white basball cap with an "A" (University of Arizona) on the front, be sure to introduce yourself.

The week of TOC is the first week of my 2 month sabbatical from Intel. I think I will stay at Sam's Town instead of Sahara. Yeeehaw! Since I live in the Phoenix area, I'm gonna drive in case there are some nice RTF planes for sale!
