It use to be the cap was the plane of choice, for most, but now there are more people flying extras.
Why is that? What is the different flight character of the 3?

The Extra is the strict compromise of the three. It is funny how eveyone changed designs through the middle to late nineties. All this change while QuiQue was winning four straight TOC's. Does the Extra do things better than others, yes. Does it do things not as well, yes. BUT!!! It does have the exact correct amount of the best of all three to be the perfect airplane at this time. With the new mid wing 300 design that Tony, Robert, thand I have conceived, it makes the oldest of all the mono-wing designs the best application for me. You may be different. All I can do is give you what I have found and seen through experience. EXTRA is the best in my eyes.
Give me a call if you would like to discuss further.

Mark,

Is the plane you currently fly considered an Extra 300 or an Extra 260? Are there any differences in the fuse design (other than wing placement) between a 260 and 300? What are the advantages/disadvantages of the mid wing placement for the Extra?

If the mid wing design is prefered for precision aerobatics, why did Walter Extra go from a mid wing design 260 to a lower wing 300? Was he possibly sacrificing some performance for wing strength?

Thanks for your time.

My understanding is that Walter Extra lowered the wing primarily for better visibility. The pilot could see over the wing on the ground and in the air.

Regards,

Dan
