Hey,
I have been thinking about getting a Hangar 9 Ultimate soon. The thing is I might just get the airplane this year for christmas and the rest later on. Since there is going to be about 5000 dollars or more in this airplane. I was wondering if this is a good choice for 3D and freestyle manuvers. Also what would be the best engine for it. I am thinking about getting a DA 150 or 200 for it. Let me know. It is going to take me 2 years to get everything

Wow,2 years is a long time, but probablly worth the wait. I have one and it is an excellent 3D/freestyle plane. I've got a DA 150 on mine and it is plenty power,no need for a 200,pulls out of T/R with plenty of authority. If you go with all new equiptment, plan on about $7000. There are a few at pretty good prices in the marketplace here on RCU.

Mike, what exhaust system did you use on the DA and do you think the DA is the right engine to obtain the right CG, also, what weight?
I want to use 2 KS cans in mine, looks like it's feasible but I have to keep below 44lb, that's essential really.
Also, if possible, would you be kind enough to share some photos of inside your model, and any recommendations.
Many thanks

I don't own a H9 Ultimate, I have owned quite a few 40%ers though. On the subject of weight and engine choice, I am in the minority. I have had planes ranging from 38 to 45 pounds dry. 40 pounds and up would have to get a 200-210 for me to be happy with the performance. A 38 pound plane with a 150 is just about the right amount of over power for me, but 36-35 pounds would be better. I'm flying a 44 pound Extra right now and the performance is just too sluggish for me in the 3D flying. I have a 38% Columbo Anderson on the bench that will hopefully come in around 36-38 lbs, and a 40% Edge coming that should be about the same. Both of these planes have a smaller ~118" WS, and a fuse length ~108-110" which is smaller than some of the larger 40-42%ers out there.
There are quite a few large 40-42% ARFs out there that wouldn't interest me with a 150, they would have to get a 210.
I'm sure that 95% of the people that fly 40%ers will disagree with me, but I'm just spoiled when it comes to power.

I think the DA-150 on my Ultimate is perfect. I don't have any dead weight on mine and it flies great. The power is perfect, and I fly it exculsively 3D. I'll try and post some pics when I get a chance.
