Does anybody fly 3D in Atlanta? I'm a GT student looking for a good flying club to check out. It has to be within walking distance of campus or from Marta.
Thanks,
Eli

Not sure you'll find something within walking distance of campus - or within Marta reach for that matter (could someone prove me wrong?) I fly down south of the airport with the Fayette Flyers, come check us out anytime... you also have many other clubs on the south side - Conley, Griffin and I heard of a new one in Jonesboro.
On the north and west side you have Cobb County RC, Paulding county has a club, so does Douglas.
if you want to fly on campus, might have to be small electric 3-d'ers...
Hope this helps,
Scott
ps- our club's site is http://fayetteflyers.com/ and is about 12-13 miles south of the airport on I-85. stop by anytime.

If you can find a ride north of the city, you will find some of the most experienced 3D fliers in the country. We fly at the GMA field in Cumming about 25 miles north of 285 just off of GA 400. Sunday evening is when most of us 3Ders fly. A group of us have been flying 3D since seeing Quique perform at the '94 TOC. Unfortunately, we can only fly our big birds on Wednesdays and Saturdays. We will be out there this evening around 5 P.M. til dark. GMA field phone is 770-781-4337. Come on out!

There is always the football field!!!!
Like everyone said - GT is right in the heart of downtown. Nothing but concrete. Post some notes on the boards at tech and see if there are some other RC'ers on campus with a way to get back and forth to the fields.
In the mean time - have fun and eat some onion rings at the Varsity for me!!!

Umm,
Time to consider an electric 3D flyer? The Atlanta club is probably the closest to the school, about 10 to 12 miles to the southwest just off Bouldercrest Rd. It's inside of 285.

Hey Geistware, how long yu been with Conley Flyers. I was a member for ten years while I worked in ATL at Hartsfield. I was even pres for a year, and Contest Director for a couple. How is the new field at the landfill? I hear they put in a huge asphalt strip. Are they going to let any jets on it? I'll be down in Ga. in Sept. for mtc training classes for two weeks and hope to do some flying at Conley field.

I keep thinking I've heard of every club in the area, but it seems like,
every week, I hear about another one. I'd like directions to this field, too!
I'd like to come see some of this fancy flying in person, rather than in a video clip.
It ain't happenin' at our field, that's for sure. There are several fantastically precise pilots,
and a lot of awfully nice people, but for the most part, all they fly is pattern practice.
I keep hoping the hotdoggers will show their true colors after pattern season is over

elderair,
I am going on my second year as a member. The flying field is nice but it is a little cramped for some of the larger planes. Also the PVC vent pipes can make South - North landings very interesting. When you come in, let me know and we can fly one evening or weekend.

Here are the directions to GMA. I-85N to GA-400N(toll road) to EXIT 13(141). Make a Right and then an immediate Left onto Brannon rd. Brannon Rd is on the left just before Waffle House. Follow to the end, make a right onto Old Atlanta. About 2 or 3 miles down make a Left onto Trammel Rd, accross from ORR Animal Hospital. We are about 2 mile down on the right, about a half mile past the school.
Here is the website.

From your location and your description of the flying I bet you fly at the Paulding Co. field. If so are you aware of the Cobb Co. field about 3-4 miles from there? Some 3D flying going on there, longer runway too, though the trees can be a problem.

For a long time I thought the trees were not a problem. Till I flew into one. Repaired the plane and several months later flew it in the trees again! Not only that but of the hundreds of trees, I flew into the same tree! Been a year or two and I haven't had a problem since!

You got it
Just getting back into RC recently... I went with the smaller club.
I had heard CCRC could be quite "busy" on any given Sunday.

I've visited a few times, but it started to rain every time I went.
I did get to see a guy doing some 3D with a heli whle I was there the last time.

Geistware...
They also tell me that the trees are 90% air.
Funny how the models usually find the 10% that's wood, huh.
(I did get lucky enough to manage to fly one home with only shredded wing covering, once)
