Default What Smoke System?

What would be a good, inexpensive, smoke system that would pump good, full smoke on a Moki? I dont mean a tiny trail, I mean like clouds of smoke that will surround the plane while torque rolling.

Thanks,
Brandon

isn't much point putting smoke on a glow engine, too much weight and the muffler doesnt get hot enough for all the oil to reach smoking point, so you will basically just be pumping oil down your plane

A Moki will though. A friend had one that smoked real well. I think that muffler gets pretty hot. It will be really messy and slimey but it should look cool. If it dosen't work well I can always put it on something else.

And what's the deal about smoke mufflers with pre-heating coils? I guess that heats the muffler?

Bringing this to the top. Just need a recommendation on a good inexpensive smoke pump.

Even if it's not inexpensive, I want to spice up my freestyle flying for show.

The amount of oil has to match the size of engine you have. Too much oil and you cool off the muffler. Thats the key to not getting a bunch of oil on your plane with smaller engines. A great system I highly recommend is the TME SmartSmoker pump. They also have the Simple Smoke Pump which cannot be adjusted from the transmitter but costs less. Either way you don't have to buy a spare servo and hook up a bunch of switches and valves. They have a book that comes with it full of tips to help you maximize the smoke. They are used by the top TOC and Masters pilots in competition so you will have something that can grow with you if you get into bigger planes. I just put the "SkyWriter" by Sullivan on my G23. It works perfect, and only cost $65. And like the TME smart smoker, it plugs into the receiver so you can mix it with the throttle or use an adjustment knob like your flap channel. Keep in mind there is more to smoke besides the pump. You need a separate battery for it, due to the electric motor (would hate to have that short and kill the receiver). A separate tank for the oil, and get it as close to the CG point as possible so that it wont change as you use the smoke oil. A muffler that is designed for smoke. One that actually has a spiral chamber so when the oil enters the muffler it spirals around near the exhaust header picking up the heat from the engine before it is released into the actual exhaust stream. Have fun with it, mine is definitely a crowd pleaser.

Mike
