you would be happy with either because their both great planes and a saito 82 or a saito 100 4stroke will do respectivly. you need to beef up the control rods on both. both are good beginner 3d planes and fly good. i would go with dubro pinned hinges right off because ive had the ca hinges fail on them and the pinned hinges will last. you will need a servo reverser for the elevator and a y for the ailerons.

good luck Gary

I have been fiddling with 3d for 6 mos and got the UCD46 when I started. It is a really smooth , stable plane. Very easy to fly and land. As for as 3d stuff goes it works ok for my level. I also fly a Burrito which I find a lot quicker which for me is scary sometimes. The UCD is easiest to fly plane for me I have tried. A friend has the UCD60 and I love to watch it. Haven't flown it tho.

Dude,
I started learning 3D with the UCD 46 (and still do, hope to buy a new plane soon) and after the trainer. I must say it's extremely easy to fly!!! I wouldn't change my decision to go for it.
Although, there's one thing you must know about it (the 46 size): It's very weakly-built. If you sneez to hard right aside it it will be broken ... That's why I'm recommending you to go for the 60 size if you'r in the budget... I don't know how it flies, Some say better some say worse but it's bigger so it's easier to see and recognize in the air, and most important: I'm defenitly sure that it's much much stronger, it's not as weak as the small one...

Can you take the wing off both for transport?

rrw71, I have the 46 and the wing comes assembled in one piece and is able to be taken off for transporting. I don't know about the 60 but assume it's the same.

I got a .46 size about a year ago and flew it over the summer. This was my first 3d airplane I've flown to learn 3d on. It was great in the beggining cause it tought me to hover. I also learned everything gjeffers said the hard way but I got through it. I slapped a O.S. 91fs on it right away. Later in the year I chopped the nose down an inch and know it can mach some of the intermediate skill levels. Anyway I don't know about the 90 size but I can tell you this if you build the ucd .46 the right way and get it to hover half throttle you'll be a 3-d fly before your eyes. Garanted. and areo-fly pro you can't go wrong. the only downside I see to the ucd was that I grew out of it in one year. Know I'm ordering a WH 28% Edge 540. 15 years old 1 year flying expearance 2 years building. Hard on money but come on throw somtin' else at me![>:]

I have been flying the UCD 60 for 2 years know and I have been frustrated trying to learn 3D with it. Maybe the 46 is different. The spad 3DT is easier to harrier, , elevator, hover, but as far as normal flying stinks. I can only get the the UCD 60 to harrier downwind, but as soon as I try to make a turn or if I start making a little correction on the aileron it starts wing rocking like crazy. Maybe its just me as a pilot, but there has to a better plane out there.

there are better planes out there and i have to find one too. i think im going with the EF yak 54. but the ucd i believe is a important first step to 3d. it will teach you to fly at high and low rates first and it also teaches you to fly a low wing.and i have gained a lot of confidence from it and now i can do great blenders with the ucd and it also does knife edge the hard way but i think it teaches you a lot to learn tricks the hard way and when i get my yak im gonna say wow, this is great. the same thing i said when i first flew my ucd. so what is great about this hobby is there is always another step, but boy is it expensive!! other things i have learned to do with my ucd and it does good are stall turns, hovering, but im still got room to get better and just all around flopping around. so good luck you guys.oh and im 51 and going on 16.
