IN ENGINE POWER MATTERS. IS A OS 91 FX ENOUGH TO PULL OUT OF A HOVER WITH AUTHORITY OR JUST BARELY? WOULD A OS 108
FIT IN ON THE FIREWALL & COWL OF THIS PLANE? I AM CONSIDERING BUYING ONE OF THESE PLANES AND WANT TO BE SURE I HAVE MORE THAN ENOUGH POWER WITH BEING TOO HEAVY.

I saw in another thread where the 91 fx was working. Also they said the 1.08 will not fit.

I saw one with a 91 FX yesterday. He was torque rolling 2 feet off the deck and climbing out with authority.

Whadda you all think about a 91 4C for this model? I've actually got 2, a TT F-91S and a YS 91FZ. I think I'll try the TT, but may need to go to the YS to get adequate thrust to pull out of a hover vertically...

Default engine choice

I got 3 initial trim flights yesterday. Using an OS 91 4S and the plane will hover / tork but seems to lack authority to pull out vertically. I would go with the YS.

I've been heavily considering this plane as a home for my YS91. I think that would be a great combo with an excellent power to weight ratio.

Hello guys:
This thing with a OS 91 hovers and climbs out very well, I have found that with the C/G at 5" back this thing performs best, to get there you will have to add approx. 2 oz of lead to the tail. So I would be reluctant to add any heavier engines. this thing with two 9411s for elevator, one 8411 for rudder and a 1500 ma.pack over the trailing edge of the wing comes in nose heavy.

Sincerely
Bob Sawyer

P.S. The total weight came in at 7.8 lbs.

I came in under 7 pounds (6lbs 12oz) with a Magnum xl91, although I have not mounted the cowl yet Using a 2000mh 6v nimh battery and 3 605's in the tail. Plenty of vertical out of hover, although I think a 91 4c would not be enough. It balanced perfectly at 4 7/8"

Default how did you get 6 lb 12 oz???

Aridium, how did you get to 6 lb 12 oz? Here is my weight :

75 oz : everything in the box (fuse, wing, tailfeathers, motor mount, wheels, gear, etc)

33 oz : saito 100

2.5 oz : 720 mAh NiMH

4.0 0z : mini servos for ele, ail, throttle (0.8 oz DS368's)

1.3 oz : rudder servo (DS 9411)

1.8 oz : receiver

2 oz : add'l hardware (pushrods, horns, etc)

That's 7.5 lb. How much does your Magnum .91 weigh? Everything else you used was considerably heavier than what I used and I find it incredible that you were able to come in more than half a pound lighter! Did I get a brick of a kit?

Actually it's the CA fumes that get to me... What size battery packs are people using with this model? 6 servos, I figure that you'll need at least 1100mAh. I think I'll be going with a 4 cell 1650mAh NiCD (3.9oz) back stuck way back to get the plane to balance.

f2racer, change that NiCD to a NiMh, you will save a bit of weight there not much but a little.

Oops, I meant a 1650 NiMH pack. Don't know if they even make a 1650 NiCD...

Default Just bought my U Can Do "It"

Just picked mine up at a LHS for $200 out the door. I have been arguing with myself whether to put a YS91 or 120 on it, and I've decided on a YS120NC that I have. It should develop at least 10-11 lbs thrust swinging a Zinger16x6, and will be much livelier than with a marginal YS91 on it.

I'm curious about something the original poster brought up-- would a 1.08 2-stroke fit on the firewall? According to Tower's web-site, the Magnum 1.08XL (23.6oz w/muffler) actually weighs a little LESS than an OS .91FX (24.3oz w/muffler) and has more power!

I have no idea how good the Magnum engine is (I've heard both good and bad around here... anybody have experience with this specific engine?), but this seems like a great combo (and $50 less than the O.S. to boot!).

So, will a 1.08 fit?

I saw where a person said that the fuse was to narrow for the 1.08.

Default 108 too heavy

JUST RECIEVED MY PLANE TODAY. HAD A 108 FOR IT, AND I COULD GET IT TO FIT. IT IS TOO HEAVY 35 OZ WITH MUFF. ALSO, I DO NOT THINK THE FIRE WALL CAN TAKE THAT MUCH WEIGHT. ON A HAAAARD LANDING IT WILL RIP IT OUT - TO MUCH LEVERAGE. gUESS I WILL OPT FOR AN OS 91FX.

ANYONE WANT TO BUY A NEW OS 108 ?
