I wanted to get some ideas of what people came out with for weight on this plane. I came out with an all up weight of 8.5 lbs... the plans say 7-7-5 lbs... I have never been able to meet those weights. I thought I was fairly careful in the building of the plane. I did increase the weight by putting a 1400 amp battery and a 1.08 Magnum 2 stroke with a 15x6 prop in it. I also put some Hitec 615MGs in the tail. I don't think the motor will have a problem hauling the plane around or vertical for that matter but I am wondering how and if it will be able to 3d. I would like some feedback as to what other people got for weights and how the heavier birds reacted.
Thanks
Jeff

Mine came out at just about your weight ..8 1/2 pounds or so with a 1100 MA battery, six servos and an OS .91 4-stroke, monokote covering.

Mine was 8lbs 3oz with OS91FS however it's not a great plane to 3D with... Good flyer but not 3D. It would hover but does not have the ability to quickly recover it if down low. The wing loading is too high for good 3D.

Thanks Wreckerman,
I saw some pics of your plane and actually have them on my webshots at work. Mine is done up similarly to yours. I am trying to find a plane of similar size that will 3D well. I don't know if I could get this one down to an acceptible weight with a different engine oo whether I should just fly it and look for a different plane all together. I have the GP giles 202 and its practically the same thing. How does your plane fly?? I noticed you now have a DP Extra which I am sure flys much differently (better).
Thanks for the imput
Jeff

If you really like the GP stuff you might give there Cap 232 a try. I have one with an OS 70 FS in it and it flys great. If I was going to want unlimited power I would put the OS 91 4 stroke in it. the 70 does pull it vertically forever but it does slow down quite a bit. Mine came in at 5.75 LBS with about 1/2 a tank of gas. This is a sweet flying plane and has all the throw you could ever want.

The 70 and the 91 weight about the same and the plane will balance perfectly with either engine installed.

I agree with Sundevil pilot.... I'm now able to hover and do most 3d maneuvers with it... mine weighs 6.1 lbs sporting a Saito .91.
I can't fly unlimited vertical nor nothing close to it since I'm over 8000 ft over sea level. I wouldn't think twice about putting a .91 FX on the Cap, and... oh... this doesn't look like a good first 3d plane to me. U should practice on a good fun fly plane first.

Greetings from nopal's land.
