U-Can-Do 3D .46 building tips

Thread Starter

I just ordered a U-Can-Do 3D .46 which is not only my first 3D aircraft, but also my first ARF. Is there anything I need to be aware of in terms of strengthing/reinforcement while I'm assembling the model? From the pictures I've seen, the landing gear mount looks a little weak(?). Our R/C field has a 500 foot paved runway, but I'm concerned how the landing gear will hold up if I should run off into the grass (usually mowed, but still a little rough).

Kaos, Nice choice for an ARF. I love mine. The landing gear block broke out on mine fairly early but didn't do much damage when it came out and was easier to beef it up after it broke out than when it was new. (better access) I put some Gorilla glue in around it and it's pretty beefy now. Chances are yours will probably break off, paved runway or grass. Some people on the forum have had some problems with the horizontal tail breaking and some have added supports to strengthen it. I haven't done that to mine yet but it wouldn't hurt. Big thing is not to fly the UCD's very fast while doing aerobatics. They won't hold up to that. Have fun

I have a .46 with a Saito 100. I added a little firewall reinforcement on the corners then mixed epoxy, thinned with denatured alcohol and brushed inside the fuel tank compartment and inside and outside of the fire wall to fuel proof. I do this with all planes whether ARF or kit built. I have 50 plus flights on it. With a 100 I obviously fly it with the engine wide open but I do all the violent maneuvers I know how and don't feel the need for tail wires. It won't hurt though if you add them. My landing gear is holding up but I think its only a matter of time. The UCD is easy and fun to fly.
Good luck

From: Center of the Flyover States,
Don't install your wheel pants until you have beefed your landing gear. Otherwise you will perforate your wing bottoms, probably when the gear breaks.
