Default GreatPlanes .40 sized Extra 300S???

Anyone know if the Great Planes .40 sized Extra300S will perform 3D when powered by a Saito .72???

I Really want this plane for practicing IMAC sequences... just wondering what it's capable of.

Any other info about this plane would be appreciated also.

i don't think this plane is a 3D plane in the 40 size in the bigger size it is very capable. it is a great flying airplane otherwise.

apbonura,

I have the Great Planes Extra 300S, 40 size ARF with an OS 70 Surpass II on it.

It is a very nice flying plane and would be fine for Basic and maybe Sportsman IMAC sequences, however, in my opinion it isn't suited to fly 3D maneuvers (hovering etc.). Also, it wouldn't be a good plane for IMAC sequences above Sportsman. For this you really need a bigger, more stable, and more powerful plane.

Keep in mind, if you're just getting into IMAC you don't need to do 3D now anyways. The first step is to start learning precision flying with the basic sequence. I have no idea what level you're at, but if you haven't flown precision before this alone will keep you occupied for quite a while.

Good luck,
KeithB

The control surfaces are to small for 3D, let alone the higher wing loading with this size plane and a big engine. Its an awsome aerobat though.

Excellent plane for beginning IMAC. Flies fast but holds lines very well and looks great.

Default Extra 300

Donīt thing so, This airplane is fast and donīt have much rudder authority which is not the best for hovering, of course if you are good in the hover maneuver it will do it but if the airplane falls in one of its sides you wonīt be able to recover it, i have tried to do flat spins whith this airplane but it doesnīt do it. I've tried to do elevators but wings rock like crazy, so didnīt tried harriers.

It is good at IMAC type but personally donīt like the fact that it has to fly too fast to keep a good tracking.

I had the GP Extra 300S ARF... great basic IMAC trainer, but a bit too heavy to 3D.... I even tried an OS 91FX, and I got a great vertical performance (it was capable to perform intermediate IMAC pattern with no vertical lack), but the plane also got heavier & just unable to 3D.

I have one with a Saito 72. It is definitely not 3D capable. It's too heavy and has puny surfaces. Now that my CG Sukhoi is on-line, the little GP Extra has been relegated to collecting dust. I was never able to groove with it. $.02

I am actually trying some IMAC these days. I'm flying the basic sequence. I go through it four times during a flight and screw off the rest of the time. From my personal experiences, I think you would get very frustrated trying to fly IMAC or any other precision aerobatics with the little GP Extra. It is simply not a straight enough flyer. My opinion is that you need at least 66 inch wing and very light. You want a slow airplane so you have plenty of time to keep your airplane tracking during the sequence. The longer the better too.
