Default HITEC SERVO PROBLEM!!!

hi guys i just want you guys 2 know that i have bought 6 hs-5645mg brand new about a year ago i have used 2 of them on an airplane which was not crashed and the other 4 have been sitting on the shelf since about a couple of weeks ago since ive put them in a new plane. one day i is was ready to take a flight and was wiggling my ailerons which have the 5645mg's on them and one of them stayed at the last input for about 5 seconds when the transmitter stick was at neutral, i did this in lo rates and hi rates and did it intermediatly about almost every 2 or 3 inputs they would stay at last input for a few seconds so i went home and swapped them out for one of the other hitec 5645mg's laying around and after a couple of miutes of wiglling the ailerons back and forth they started to do it so i swapped them for another 5645mg i had laying around that was new and it did the same thing so i first thought it was my setup i took the 3 bad servos plugged them in different channels on my reciever, same thing, so i took a servo that i knew that was good and it worked fine on the channels i were using before. so i told my friend which has been flying for about 25years and is a full-time r/c flight instructor i mean he knows alot we used a different transmitter, seeing if it was my radio and that didnt change anything and he checked the gear trains he told me they were perfect, he even told me there was something wrong with the servos. i mean i have never dropped any of these servos or have done anything to them except i used 2 of them on a different plane but the others they were new so thats really wierd 3 out of 6 servos were bad i havent contacted hitec yet but i mean i am an hitec guy all of my planes have hitecs in them so that makes me think twice, Dean

Dude, your servos are not bad. You have a bad Y harness or not enough power. I've solved several peoples so called problems by using heavy duty extentions and 6 volt battery. All of the digitals will do this exact thing when there is not enough power to them and you run a Y harness or dual servos.

That's exactly what I was going to say. Don't use whimpy little extensions with these servos. Also 6 volt batteries are all I use. I never have problems with the 5645's or 5945's.

Try a Heavy Duty Y.

Could it be the cause of the 5945's locking hard over? I've had Hitecs fail after 3 flights, just stop working.

I agree with both sides here. Hitech did have a problem with this servo series, however it has been fixed. If you got some of those older servos (maybe they sat on the shelf for a while) then its possible. HOWEVER, these digis are power hungry. If you are using small gauged wire and 4.8 battery pack then your asking for a problem. When I run digis I use a 7.2 battery regulated down to six and nothing less than an 18 guage wire.

If it is the servo thats acting up send it in to Hitech they will make it right. It beats the heck out of paying all that money for JR servos.

took the words out of my mouth.. i use no extentions and Ys due to one crashing a plane. I make my own with hitec wire. comes in a 50 ft roll. plus i can make a 100 for the price of 5

LUCKILY i have never run accross a servo that went bad sitting around.. I have had 1 bad out of the box (JITTERS)

No its not power hungry i have a 5-cell in there that was off charge and i checked the voltage it was like 6.2+ with a load i have the airwild heavyduty extensions and i hooked the servo's straight to the reciever too and they did the same thing, the funny thing is that i have a 5645 on the rudder and my elevator is a 6985-hb digital coreless and they both work fine with me wiggling all the surfaces to get most current drain, and i never ever use y-harnesses and im not going through the maximum arch on my servo rates too so there not locking up i mean i trust my friends word on everything 100% he does this for a livng and he even said there is a problem with the servos, i just wanted to get the word out because i almost crashed my $2000+pattern plane. i have also heard that hitec is amazing when it come it comes to customer service but if something would of happen what could of they done,Dean

Can you try a different rx or tx? If they still do that I'd send them into Hitec for examination. They are very good about helping customers out.

Sounds like those servos have to go back Hitec. Check out this thread on leaking (grease?) servos. I wonder if it's related to your problem. I have several new Hitecs (not digital and no sign of leaking yet) in the box for over a year and would like to know what you find out.

I had the exact same problem with hi-tec-junk, I also had problems after using the hitecjunk programmer, i would reverse the servo and after a day of flying while still in the air the servo would decide to re-reverse its self, now if I was Bill Hempel, I mite stand a chance in landing or at lease being able to bring the thing around to the field so I would not have to go pick up pieces scatted all over the Frequen desert..

I didn't even bother calling or sending the stuff back to hi-tec

I guess that old saying !QUOT! you get what you pay for !QUOT! really is true !

and my 200 dollar hi-tec programmer is now a great fish tank item, I get to tell everyone that comes to my business the !QUOT! hi-tec !QUOT! story and the fish love swimming thru it !!

Thanks Hi-Tec for the great lesson !!

I will never say that hi-tec is junk other people might think that because i have been having so many problems with just this one line of servos i will trust everything hi-tec makes rx's,modules etc. just i have heard alot of bad things about the 56-- line and will not trust just those servos, on my 35% im getting, im putting all 6985-hb's in it i think hi-tec should re-call all of the 56--mg line and the anolgue metal gear line i think if they did that all of there complaints and bad reputation would have a clean slate and they would turn over a new leaf, buts thats just my 2centz,dean

I wont use any of them hitecs except in a little foamy plane, as they seem to have figured those out..

I maidened a buddies 35% Yak, all 5945's in it, the plane was awesome, the servo's were not, they center poorly, on the ailerons you tap it to one side to roll, and it keeps going, go the other way, it keeps going, even the elevator seemed to do this a couple times.. You do get what you pay for. .02

John -
I have to say that I have seen a lot more gear play in the recent batch of 5945's I have ... not really happy with that seeing that there is little or NO gear play on my 8611s.. I just wish the 8611s would have a programmer.. I really hate to have more stuff to break like matchboxes and equalizers.. not to mention the rats nest of wiring.

My linkages are rock solid but there is a good 1/8" play at the surface when I wiggle it... you can actually see the output shaft moving so its the servo, not the linkage or control arms / ball links. All my 5945''s do this, so its not just a fluke.

I have had no flutter and precision still seems very good. I don't see the blow back issue you mentioned at all - I'm not sure what that is..

I think my 35% Carden will be getting all 8611s.
