I'm about to choose an engine for my CAP 232 from Top Model with a wingspann of 82 inches and a total dry weight of 15-16lbs. I have narrowed it down to either a ZDZ50NG on a pitts-style muffler or a MVVS 58 on a can. I'm wondering if the ZDZ will provide me with unlimited vertical performance, or will I have go for the MVVS, which I feel might be a bit overkill for this plane?

A zdz 50 will easily accelerate a 16 lb plane out of a hover.

AGREE!!!
My Extra weighs in at a heavy 17 1/4 lbs & the ZDZ 50NG pulls it around with authority.
Like it so well I bought a second one for my 29% Katana

Yes mine has the Bisson Pitts muffler but it isnt modified in any way. The only thing I've dont to it is plug the hole for smoke as I dont have a smoke system on it. This muffler allows plenty of performance but is very quiet buy most standards but still gives it that throaty sound of a BIG engine. I like it & plan to go with the same muffler on the new one I purchased for the Katana. I wouldnt see any need in modifying it for any reason.
