I am using a 600maH 4 cell but I'm going to get a 1500 or something. Li-Po maybe
There is no benefit going to LiPo with small size. To the cost and weight of LiPo battery you need to add cost and weight of voltage regulator. It makes sense for flight packs 2500+ mAh. The reason of using LiPo for Rx/Servo is ability to keep constant 6V (or 5.4) regardles of load within the limits of voltage regulator.

For small planes (like PLH Edge 46) I don't see a reason to install LiPo. Standard 6V NiMh 1200mAh will work just fine.

yeah, I will more than likely just go with a 5 cell 2000 or something. How long could someone expect from a battery with this size and my servos with normal flying an 3D?

I was thinking the same thing about the Li-Po. I'll just use it with the electric plane and go regular 5 cell for the Funtana.

Thanks

i use a 6 volts 1200 mah nimh on my edge and it gives me about 7 flights of 10 minutes.

I have 2s1p 2500 LiPo (rated 10C) in my PLH Edge 90. Battery with 10A voltage regulator weights 4.5oz where the same size NiMh (5x2500mAh) would weight about 8 oz.

I decided to use this capacity not because of the flying time (my brain burns out faster than the battery) but because of the power performance. My Edge has 5 digital high torque servos plus one Mighty Mini. Even when I load all servos at the same time the voltage never drops below 6V.

But this this is overkill for 46 size and 1200 or 1500 would be the reasonable max.

hi guys!!!

well, i just got my powerline 46-edge and i was wondering how good the covering is...

is it durable??? does it peel off from time to time???
how does it stand it after years of flying and sun shine?? does it crack after years of use???

well, if the covering is not that good, i want to recover it entirely with monokote before putting it toguether because the final product would be much nicer and easyer to do..

well, i had always used monokote and i think its the best covering available, but my funtana is covered in ultracote and its a headech, i have to iron it down or glue it down from time to time and fuel gets soak under the seems.... i never had this kind of problem with monokote, that why i love monokote and hate ultracote....well, in the other hand, i think monokote and ultracote stand the abuse of fuel and sun shine equally good after years of abuse...

well, any input in the powerline 46-edge covering will be apreciated...

thank you all...

I'm retiring my worn out Funtana and moving all the gear into the PL Edge. I should have it in the air this weekend. What's the best CG range for 3D? All up weight, anybody? [8D]

CG is 95 mm (3.75 inches). It's about 3/16 forward of the center of the wing tube.

My weight with YS 63 and 1200 NiMh was just above 6 pounds (+ 1-2 ounces).

since no one replied, I have found a carbon tube from troy built models. It was a little loose but I did as they sugested and used primer to build up the diameter to a nice fit. I hope this thread is not dead, It takes sometimes six months before I finish a plane to flying status. Iam very close on this one now and will be posting some picks. I originaly wanted to put a ys .63 on this ship since I thought it would be enough power. I bought the engine and put it on a venus .40. WOW, what a combo, I highly recomend it. I lost the plane due to transmitter battery failure. Long story short I put the engine on to check for balance, with standard servos in the tail the plane is very tail heavy. It need a motor in the 20 to 24 ounce range, Including muffler. I have a .91fs that I had on a fliton 540 with a 15x4w prop that will put me in the balance area. The only problem I have with useing these big thumpers is that even at idle speed of less than 1800 the plane wants to walk away from you. I would like to know if anyone has used this engine on this plane?
