Default Chip Hyde Extra

I just test flew my 34% Chip Hyde Extra. Here are a few pix. I wasn't able to do much 3D due to the fact that my DA 100 engine is brand new and wasn't broken in yet. Also the pilot is a chicken!! It is really stable and lands very slowly without any tendency to drop a wing. . The assembly experience would have been a little easier if a manual had been available at that time. The only negatives I can report are weak tailwheel springs and I am not real happy with the wing attach method ( Although it does work well). The first few planes that were shipped were sent with too short a landing gear. Thus I had to stick with a 26x10 prop for adequate ground clearance. The new planes will have the correct length gear. Overall I am very pleased with the plane.

I must say I was somewhat dissapointed with the performance with the new engine and 26x10 prop. I am installing a 27x10 soon and will report on how it does. In all fairness, I need some more gas through the DA 100 to really determine how it performs. It was somewhat rich during my first flights. It is an easy starting engine and does well with Chip's quiet cannisters. Quiet too!
