In May a couple of guys from the flying field are coming into my 9th grade science class to explain about model airplanes and real airplanes. There are three classes we are doing this in during the day and I am going to also help explain stuff. I am plaining on dividing the class periods into two parts 30 minutes of explaining and 30 of flying. I myself am going to fly one of my small 3D planes. And couple of other guys are going to bring there electrics. Also I am going to bring my Sukhoi to show while we explain how they fly and how it works. Hopefully this will change some kids minds about the hobby. They think I am crazy doing what I do in this hobby, they dont know how much fun it can be. O yea and luckily these are all honors classes so no misbehaving. If anyone has any ideas let me know.

Might be best to try a quick flight before the talk just to whet their appetite, just gentle, maybe the odd loop or roll. Then talk them through it, give them an idea of whats goin on, them blow em away with a full-bore freestyle routine on the deck. What do you mean by small 3d plane?

For your talk, don't get too deep into the construction side of things unless your talking about composites(lots of oohs and aahs), more on what control does what, how much G your pulling, maybe set up a foamy for them to move the controls themselves(always good to see some of the girls jump when they start the motor ).

Kevin...what you have described sounds good and is pretty much what we are doing and going to do with a group of Air Force Junior ROTC cadets.
There is a "ground school" (your's, by nessessity, will just be shorter in duration ) where you can give a brief discussion of the dynamics of flight. A short demo with the airplane sitting on a table and the radio on will show them what does what...you already have that in mind so...
They always ask the same questions: "How fast will it go?" (I took my WM Dago Red to "show and tell" and got a few oohs and ahs ) How high will it go, what's the range, how much $$$ does it cost, etc etc.

Do you have someone to act as "announcer" with maybe a P.A. system or even a bull horn? A set routine of manuvers called out beforehand (like the Blue Angels/ Thunderbirds ) makes you look more professional. And you can have a "freestyle" section of time too of course...
I have put on demo flights at several schools, and getting a feel for the area before hand can make for a better and safer demo. I like to check things out in advance first, like for wires, trees, not flying over houses, etc. etc. etc.
Crowd control is very important of course. Where will you be flying? I have flown in football and soccer fields (one in the same in europe, aye?) and we had the students in the bleachers...

If you want a little P.R. for your club, maybe call the local newspaper and they might do a write-up/ photos on your "civic mindedness"
