Dave Patrick ULtimate 40 - engine?

I just got a DP Ultimate 40 and I'm trying to decide on an engine. I have a Magnum 70RFS and a Saito 100. The Saito is actually lighter than the Magnum and only 3oz more than a .46AX, so I'm leaning towards the Saito 100. My gut feeling is that a Saito 72 would be ideal, but I need to use what I have. What are other people using in the DP Ultimate 40?

Flew mine on an OS fl70, power was good. think Saito 100 will be way to much for plane, and youll have trouble with prop clearance, 12" is as big as I dared go and that was pretty close, grass stains on tips of prop!

Saito 100 turns a 15x6 so what do you think ... also, it will be totally overpowered but that does not mean the plane cannot take it. Should be a big barrel of laughs and fun!!!

Davej78,
When you say power was good with the OS 70, do you mean adequate or pull vertical out of a hover kind of power?

I would say adequate plane met an unfortunate end before i had a real chance to run motor in or play with prop sizes, its pretty light so I think it would be ok, but for pull out of hover power I really couldnt say perhaps Saito 82 or YS63

Thought DP cancilled production on these some time ago. Had one with Irving 53, pulled it right along. I bought it before my extra 300 shook itself apart in a very strange experience. Fellow super pilot was flying at the time, wings flaped like a bird, snapped in bang. Salvaged motor and gear, gave remains away. The wing tube and mountings were intact and broken. Have not had a DP product since, heard mine was not the only one. Would not consider the bype as one of my better flying aircraft!

Well I am sure that has him all pumped up to fly his new plane. Hey bipeflyer I had a Mag 80 and it ran awesome, a mag 70 wont be a YS but its free. Throw a 13x4W on there with some 30% heli fuel and you will be money.
