Funtana flatspins and Harriers HELP!!!!
Hi I was just wondering how you guys do flat spins and harriers and where you have your C of G positioned. The plane i am trying to do this on is the 40. size funtana with a Saito .82 but i feel the C of G is just to far forward any help would be helpful!!!!!!!

RE: Funtana flatspins and Harriers HELP!!!!
Mine won't harrier W/O spoilerons mixed in. Even with the mix it wing rocks a little. W/O the mix it wing rocks alot. My CG is at 6-1/4" right now. I have had it as far back as 6-3/8". It will 3D better at the 6-3/8" but is very difficult to land in the wind. Flat spins are also greatly helped with spoilerons. Although most of my flat spins are done at the bottem of a blender.
Mine is also .82 powered. I run the cowl and wheel pants and have a 1300mah JR pack behind the wing hold down to get this CG. Picture forthcoming.

RE: Funtana flatspins and Harriers HELP!!!!
mine is also .82 powered and with spoilerons harriers ok, less wing rock in inverted harrier, dont remember where the cg is, but you do have to give it constant down elevator to land, flies great though. to enter a flat spin i usually dive let it rotate 3-4 times (aileron roll) and then apply full elevator and rudder and power to pull it flat and a little opposite aileron to keep it from dipping a wing and it does an inverted spin better than upright.

spoilerons will do absolutely nothing for flat spins. First off your going to need to be on your max rates for elevator and rudder. Tell me what your stick movements are for flat spins please.

thanks dave0.
i nose over ,add full left aile
chop throttle
go right rudd
so the sicks are crossed
add full down elev
as the plane begins to rotate
i center the aile, add power
also start to feed in some right aile
or it might flop out of the spin
make sure to give yourself plenty of time, center
the sticks, once the sticks are centerd the spin will slow down
pick a spot to pull out...good luck

RE: Funtana flatspins and Harriers HELP!!!!
I have a 90 Funtana and HAD a 40 Funtana... I am at stock CG locations with both planes. I found the 40 to perform flat spins much better. Trick is with the 90 on the inverted flat spin I am getting about 50-55 deg of throw which helped flatten it out big time. 40 size was not quite that much throw but almost. You will find more harrier wing rock on the 40 size but this also depends on your weight. 90 does it too but not as badly. And ofcourse inverted harriers are much easier to control.
Just a few tips before you go tearing through everything. Try to get more throw first. And I always prefer using a longer servo arm vs. moving the linkage closer to the hinge line. After that move the CG back. If you try to harrier with no throttle and pull back completely on the stick and the fuselage is just horizontal to the ground with 45 deg of elevator throw... move the CG back. Ideally with full up elevator and no throttle you want about 20 deg or so alpha attitude.
Good luck!

If you start adding right aileron then it flop out of the spin.
Also try it the opposite way. get in a good vertical climb then at altitude chop the throttle
Nose over, hammerhead over what ever you want
start wrapping it up with right aileron
then at the same time go to full down elevator and full left rudder
this will develop a pretty quick snap
then while holding everything else start slowly pushing the aileron to center
its all about finding that sweet spot with your aileron
try it and let me know via PM

RE: Funtana flatspins and Harriers HELP!!!!
I will try to describe it. And it may be called something else in your neck of the woods. Start with the plane upright at idle. Keep adding up elevator till it is just about to stall. Then add full down/full power/ and a little rudder to keep it straight. The plane will start to tumble end over end very quickly. It will also loose ALT fairly quickly. This trick is also helped with spoilerons but with enough power will do it without them.
