Black horse extra 300 60
Hi all
I have been thinking about getting the above as a second plane and would like to hear anyones views on how this plane would perform aerobatics and some 3d like hovering.
The reason I would go for the 60 size is that I have a RCV 90SP fourstroke doing nothing and would like to use it.
I have priced the plane at GB£85 which is a great price, cheaper than the 40 size.
Thanks Rob

RE: Black horse extra 300 60
The Extra 300 60 is a nice plane to fly. Only thing about the plane is that the wings are slightly heavy. The plane's AUW with a 90 sized 2C is about only 7.5 lbs. If you want to 3D (really good fun that is) this plane you need to have an engine that will turn a 16x4W prop @ 10,000 RPM, I think your RCV is not able to turn a prop at that RPM.
Still its a nice plane to fly and I am sure with that engine you can fly her with a lot of fun for aerobatic.

Hi tIANci
You are right, the RCV engine will not run at 10000rpm, in fact its max rpm is 6000 turning 16x14, 17x13, 18x12 props. [link=http://www.rcvengines.co.uk/specifications.htm]http://www.rcvengines.co.uk/specifications.htm[/link]
so the engine gives a lot of thrust and torque, so how would this make the plane perform?
I have no idea about engine requirements so am open to advice

Robe,
With the RCV and its gearing, you will need about a 20" prop with a really low pitch. This will actually help you, since the gospel in 3D is to use the largest, lowest pitch prop possible because it makes the most thrust.
Happy Flying.

RE: Black horse extra 300 60
This is all getting confusing,
If I want max trust what about using multiblade props? RCV recomend 15.75x13 3blade for this engine. Is this engine suitable for this type of flying? what do others use.
I have just remembered I also have a ST2000 which is ear marked for another plane, but may be a while before its completed so would this engine be a better chose or is it to big.
Like I have said engines and prop selection is a mystery to me?? oh my head is getting sore thinking about it[sm=bananahead.gif]

At 7.5 pounds RTF--I would think you needed an engine in the 90--100 size range.
If it were me--and I already had the engine--then I'd buy the plane and try it out with the 90 engine.
Play with the props and pitches untill you get the most out of it. You may need longer landing gear to accomadate the bigger props. Or you could try some 3-blade props to help out with the ground clearence issue.
At least try it. You may be pleasantly surprised.

It might be about 7.5 lbs, maybe 7 even but the airfoil is thick enough. On the TT61 she was already nice to fly but of course no such thing as 3D or even near to it. Just good sport flying.
A 13" pitch prop is not something you want for this plane. That's a lot of pitch, this is not pattern flying. Something in the 8" pitch perhaps. The RCV is a gear reduced engine hence it can throw the big props. Also, the BH Extra UC is long enough to clear up to a 15" prop.
