It's an old thread, hopefully some of the GP Ultimate 65" owners are still reading it.
A few years ago I bought one second hand. Looks good. But I have never flown it yet.
Time to prepare this gorgeous plane.
It has a Zenoah ZG45 with Krumscheid 3086-5 exhaust.
1) As I have not build this plane myself, I wonder if it's best to separate the winghalves and reinforce the wingjoiners.
I don't know if this has been done by the first owner/builder. I think this plane was sold as an ARF kit
If it's not necessary I rather not. The wings are still very nice looking.
I don't fly aggressive 3D, but I do like flying loops, rolls and spinns.
2) I like to fly my planes 'neutral' on CoG with very little or no down elevator needed to fly inverted.
As most suppliers recommend a noise heavy CoG, I wonder what CoG is best for me to start with.
Is the GP recommended CoG of 6.5" (165mm) 'neutral' or still nose heavy?
Although the Zenoah is a heavy engine, the plane with engine, exhaust and servo's (without batteries, RX and powerbox) is still tail heavy when balancing on 6.5"
Any info is welcome.

I have one of those, and my son loves flying it. Have a ZDZ 50 in it and it is a beast. They did have a problem with the wings folding - I reinforced my joiners with carbon fiber rods. Having said that - I would not recommend spiting the wings - manage the throttle instead.
As far as CG is concerned, I would recommend starting with the recommended CG until you get familiar with it, than slowly move it to were you like it.

I agree with xman, do not pull the wings apart. I would recommend that you check the wing spar screws after your first flight to make sure they stayed tight. I had one nut that would always came a little loose. I do not think this was common problem.

Old plane with a new look
Hey, Guys.
This is an old thread and also an old plane. But I got one for a good price and rebuilt it.
I did just because I wanted an Ultimate. Not looking for a great performance on anything.
Just wanted to have one.
