Default My Bad Boy V2 Experience

Hello everyone i decided to do my own build, fly reveie of the Percision Aerobatic's Bad Boy V2 ARF!! This was not my first PA kits. I have also had a Katana Mini so I know the quality PA puts into their kits. When I got my kit i just couldn't wait to open it. Apon opening the box i found a great lookin fuse mounted in the middle of the box with foam blocks keeping it safe. the wings and horizontal stab were in a seperate box to protect them. beside the box was the rudder and all the hardware bagged up, the aluminum landing gear and the carbon fiber wing tube!!
After making sure all the parts were in the box i went over the wings, elevator and rudder with ahot iron to make sure all covering was tight and glued down. I went over the whole fuse cutting away all the covering from servo holes and all over areas needing covering removed. I then went over the fuse to seal all the covering to the fuse. I then installed the rudder and elevator servos. i decided not to use extensions but i soldered 8" of new wire to the 12" all ready on the servos. i used the strings already run theu the fuse to help guide the wires thru the fuse. i found it easier to guide both wires thru the fuse at the same time. after getting the wires run i then screwed the servos down to the fuse.
I next had to install the throttle servo. i used the hitec 55 micro servo. to help get the servo arm even with the throttle arm on the motor i put 3/8" blocks under each ear of the servo.
I now installed the landing gear. The landing gear is very nice prebent aluminum gear, i had to drill the pre-drilled holes for the screw to mount the gear. the kit comes with hd allen head screws and locknuts to mount the landing gear!
I next installed the aileron servos. it was very easy. all i had to do was drop them down in their precut holes and screw them down. the ailerons need no extentions. i now attached the wings to the fuse to see if there were any gaps that needed to be filled or anything adjusted! the wings fitted perfect!!!
I now had to install the stab. i slid it in the pre-cut slot and centered it up and marked the covering that needed to be removed. I used a soldering iron to remove the covering. i again pre-fit the stab. o had to sand the fuse some to get the wings, fuse, and stb to line up. i next mixed up a great amount of epoxy and glued the stab in place, holding to keep it in line. i next pre-fit the fin and marked the covering and removed it as i did the stab. i then epoxied it in place also.
I now had to hinge the elevator, rudder and ailerons. all the hinge spots were pre-cut so all i had to do was run a hobby knife thru the spots to open them up a little then i glued the hinges in place with thin ca. after checking to make sure all hinges were properly glued in i then mounted them in their place and again used thin ca to glue them all in place. i did not use any kicker to make sure all the bonds were strong. I now cut all the spots for the carbon fiber control horns that are supplied with the kit (very nice horns) and then used epoxy to glue them in place.
Next i installed the receiver in the left wing. to do the wiring in my plane i decided to make four 5" extensions for the rudder, elevator, throttle, and the right aileron. i plugged in the left aileron and all the extension and installed the on/off switch and velcroed the receiver in the far back of the wing. I had to make the wire that plugs the battery up a bit longer so it would reach the right wing panel. i installed the battery in the right wing again far back in the wing.
I now had to make up the push rods. As with all PA kits they come with very nice accesories. the control rods are carbon fiber with hd couplers and hd metel clevisis!!! i had to sand the ends of each rod to make them fit the couplers. after getting each one to fit i then epoxied each coupler to each end of the control rods. i then screwed one clevisis on each rod about 3/4 of the way and used thin ca to glue the clevsis tight. i then screwed the other clevisis on the other end, not gluing it. i then turned the radio on to center all servos, i then hooked up all the surfaces to the servos and adjused clevisis and subtrims to get each surface even!!!
To install the wheels is vert straight farward. just use screws and nuts to make the axles and then slide the wheelon and use a locknut to hold the wheel on!!
Installing the motor is very imortant, cause the motor will help balance the plane. i used rubber bands to hold the motor in place while i found the right spot to mount the motor. i had to open the rails a bit to fit the 70 4-stroke i'm using. after getting the balance right i marked the hole, drilled them and then mounted the motor using the supplied screws and locknuts. i got the plane to balance out a 142mm as recomened. i now mage up the throttle linkage using a ball link and rod. i put a ez connector on the servo arm and hooked the throttle but. it came out to be a very nice idea!!! i now installed the fuel tank, muffler and prop. i did decided to use a lrger tank. i used a dubro 10oz tank. from some advise from friends i balanced the plane 15mm further back. i ended up adding about 4 ounces of lead. i next broke the motor in and it wa all ready to have it's test flight.

It was a beutiful South Carolina evening, no wind and lots of su and heat!!!! i fueled the plane up and range chacked the radio. the motor fired right up and idled great. i taxied the plane out to the middle of the runway. i then ran the motor up, the plane tracked straight and true and with-in 20 feet she was in the air!!! it needed a little rudder and aileron trim, but the balance was way off!!! ( tail heavy) so i flew around doing so manuvers and then landed and removed one ounce of lead. i then took back off, it flew a little better but still needed more weight romoved. i flew another few minutes and then landed again and removed 1.5 ounces more of lead. i then let the motor cool a little since it is a new motor.
The second flight was wonderful!!! the balance was great. so now i took it thru some manuvers. i did some imac and pattern manuvers. it did everyone with style and grace. it's hard to beleive it's a profile the way it flys. Next i did some 3-d moves, i hovered and harriered around the feild for minutes!!! i did some walls, and snaps and spinns it did everyone so easily!!!! this plane will fly so slow that when it does stall the wing will show you witch way it's goin. landing is a breeze, just make sure to use to motor to fly it to the runway and becarefull not to ride the elevator and it will sit right down on all 3 wheel at once!!!!!

The Bad Boy V2 is a wonderful kit and great to fly. It is now my favorite plane to fly!!!!! i would recommended it to anyone who has sport plane training and they will learn alot with this plane, and in the hands of a pro the performance is unlimited!!! I look farward to getting another and doing an electric set-up on it!!! If you are still thinking about getting a Bad Boy you better hurry cause the first batch is running out fast!!!! the quality of the kit is outstanding, flight performance is great and it's beutiful plane to have!!!

Turn and Burn and Be Bad!!!!!!!!!
Mike Price
PS i'm using a Magnum 70 4-stroke, JR 9303 Radio with Hitec 422 deluxe servos, a 13x6 apc break in prop, hope to use a 14x4w apc soon.

Dude,

That looks KILLER with the JR decals. Mikey, you always make these PA planes look sweet. Thanks for the kind words and most importantly, I'm happy the plane is providing you soo much enjoyment.

Smooth sailing
