Question...When you fly do you normally stay with pretty much one plane all season or do you take two or three to the field and "exercise" each of them.I can see pros and cons both ways. If you fly one plane a lot you will have a better feel for it and work out the trimming bugs (which can be very tiedious) and become very good with that plane. Or you can do what I do (just can't wait to try "new & better"). I fly somewhere in the neighborhood of 250 flights per season. But I'm lucky to get 40 flights on a single plane. About the time I really get one set up the way I like it I feel the need to change.
Certainly I have my favorites (UCD for me) but I'm always trying new stuff. I have a fun plane, a wind plane, a plane I fly when it's hot, and one for when it's cooler. So far I don't have a different one for dark.
Thanks
Barry

I'm one like you are Barry,
I fly several, but I usually fly several in one day. I have some that I like to fly doing normal aerobatics, loops, rolls, Split S's, and the like. a couple that I like to 3D, and one that is just a slow relaxing and take a nap plane. That is the one I fly from my chair and get over 30 minute flight times with. Then there are the heart attack speed planes... Been there done that crashed them all... Sometimes leaving a 2 foot hole in the ground...

I try to fly every one of my planes at least once a year, but lately that process has been held up due to me flying my Kaos
(It's so much fun, even though it doesn't do 3D well).

Barry Cazier,
In the last year, I have got three new planes. I have a Mustang .60, US 40 , and Twist 40. I just got my Twist two weeks ago. I got my US(Ultra-Stick) 9 months ago, and my Mustang 4 months ago. I don't fly my Mustang often.(Maybe, once every six weeks) I have to go to a special field to fly my Mustang that is 50 miles away. My Ultra-Stick used to come with me to the field all the time(Until I got my Twist) I am just getting used to my Twist, now. As soon as I am used to my Twist, I will take my US and Twist with me every time.
I love my Twist.
Regards,
Mike

Barry, I like to bring 2 or 3 if I plan to be a the field for a while. I start out with the best plane and as my brain starts to wear out I move to my beater plane.
Also, if the air is full of planes, and it is other fliers I am not confident in, I give the nod to by beater plane[8D]

I think alot depends on what is trying to be accomplished. Flying alot of different planes certainly builds a good experience level, and builds all around skill levels. Flying a single plane helps refine the skill level one that particular model such as in IMAC or Pattern flying.

If its an all day event I will bring more than one. I don't have a large hanger as I devote up to or beyond an entire season to one plane. Each new plane gets the same thorough set up period before I am comfortable with it. For the most part, its the same model on a daily basis. I guess you could say that I believe in flying one plane in an attempt to fly it well. I do enjoy the diversion of other models, but would rather work on my skills, in which consistancy helps greatly. Joe

I used to take about 4 to the field. 2 of them were ready to go as they were. The other 2 needed to be put together. After a while I got tired of hauling around 4 planes because I was carrying 3 different type of fuel for each.
Main reason is I cant stand putting together and taking apart my planes. It is a pain and I would rather fly. I usually end up at end of day taking apart planes trying to beat sundown. Now I just fly my Funtana everytime I go. I think a good way to get to know your plane is fly the same one over and over so it is working out good. When ever the head for my engine comes in I will be taking out my Cap 580 then fly wings off that.

FlooredCobra,
I have to agree with you. I used to take three planes to the field. I find when I take more than 2, I only fly two of them anyway. Now, all I take is my Ultra-Stick 40 and Twist 40. But I take those down every time.

Mike

I like diversity. I don't want 2 planes that are very similar. I am also obsessive compulsive, which means I like to fly the heck out of one till I get bored with it, then switch to another. I never take more than 2 at a time to the field, and wouldn't even if I could. When I'm down to one plane that is flyable, I am in a quandry till I get another one ready. I don't like being down to one plane.

Not24...You must be a Jeff Gordon fan I'm guessing. Anyways, I with you. When I'm down to one plane I'm perinoid. I start flying so careful I'm dangerous. In fact when I'm down to two I'm looking for something to build. Right now I've only got 3 and I'm a little nervous. But I've got a Harrier on the table, well almost. I'll be building it this week.
It seems like I fly one model for about 30 to 40 flights exclusively and then I'm ready to move on. This next season I'm going to do more like cumn thru. I think there is a lot of good in flying the same plane. You can really get the feel for it and maybe even learn better because you're not always trying to trim out an airplane. My only problem,...is which plane should I choose. Right now I guess it would have to be the Showtime. Well...or the UCD...or ?
THanks
Barry

Out of the planes I have
68" EF yak
mini 3D
hobby lobby foamy yak 55
UCD 60 (needs repairs)
90 size Cap 232
GP skybolt
70" extra with a saito twin
90 size topflight p40
1/3 scale extra in the works
I have never flown the last 4 items on the list. I used to Fly the UCD everyday, but the tail fell off half way through the summer tail touching and never bothered repairing it. I only flew the cap 1 time this year I really don't need it. I really like my yak 54, foamy and mini 3D. I bring them flying every single day and get at least 10 combined flights a day. I even have NEW kits of those 3 planes. I really don't have any fun with the rest of the planes, but like how they look up on the ceiling. I would sell maybe 2 or 3, but used planes don't sell too easily.
Out of the heli's I have I only brought my raptor 50 out like 5 days in the summer. I never got a chance to fire up my fury 60 and my new fury extreme. Its a shame I really like the fury.
