Well, I had the Thundertiger Spirit3d (looks like a harrier) and it was flying awesome on maiden flight day until I handed the radio to a buddy who lawndarted it right after take off. I was using the OS .46 but the spirit weighs like 4.5lbs compared to the harriers 5.5lbs. I was thinking about selling the 46 and getting something different. How would the os50 do? Or should I go with a .60? What about the saito 72. I would like to keep it as light as possible for good slow speed performance. THANKS!

ys .63 or satio .82... they are both able to throw a 14x4w apc prop depending on the fuel you use and they are both very light for the amount of torque they put out
since the .63 and .82 can throw larger props than 2 stokes in their weight class, that means the plane can fly even slower than the 2 strokes and will pull out of hovers better

I have the saito 82 on mine, it works well. Dont be scared to put a 91 4 stroke on this bird, after all mine weighs ~6.5 #'s. A 60 2 stroke would be good also, I just perfer 4 strokes.

I would like to put a saito 82 (looks to weigh less than the 72!) or a 60 2-stroker but I just got the harrier together and I put the OS46 in there for the time being and it is already quite nose heavy. I have to put the battery pack towards the rear of the plane past the canopy bulkhead to get it to balance at the recommended CG. When you guys put those bigger engines in there are you having a difficult time hitting the CG??
Ps. I also have a Saito 100 sitting here....anybody try something that big in there?

when you say "big engines" which ones are you talking about?....the .63 and .82 weigh about the same as the OS 46...the satio 100 only weighs 3-4 ounces more than OS 46

I run the 82 On mine and it came in at 6lbs 3oz Funny thing though it flies like it wieghs 4.5 pounds, but yea CG is hard to hit with a 17oz + motor.

I built a custom battery tray one bay behind the radio compartment and used a 1400 mil nicad pack pack to get my Harrier 46 to balance at 140 mm behind the leading edge, with a Saito 82 in the nose. The plane weighs 6 pounds, 4 onces dry. Last Sunday my son was flying it and going verticle at a very good clip. He said "look where the throttle is". When I looked at the tranmitter, the throttle was dead on the half throttle mark. At full throttle the Harrier will go verticle at a very fast speed, it hovers at slightly over 1/3 throttle, this at 2000 ASL. I'm running a 15x4W APC cut down to 14 inches and 30% heli fuel. This package seem to work very well.

The Saito 100 4 stroke seems to be reasonable if you're careful with the throttle . Power always there when you need it . Too much and you rip the wings off .!~ That's what I'm going to use .

I have mine with Hacker C50 10L w/6.7:1 gearbox, APC-E 18x8 prop, TP6000 5S3P Li-polymer battery.
Hovers above 1/2 throttle, flying time around 20 minutes

I dont have either YS 63 or Saito 82, but would like to get one. They seem to go for about the same, the price of fuel may help deside, do you need to run 30% Heli in the 82, how about the YS? How large of a tank are you guys running, what kind of flight times with 3D flying...
Thanks

I run 20% cool power MV(multi-viscosity) at 500' ASL. I also was in the same boat as you, I considered the YS-63 and found someone who had both and they liked the Saito 82 since it could swing a 15X4W well. I now own 2 saito 82's. Plus I'm not sure about the 63 but you cant get a YS 110 right now and probably wont for a while. YS just doesnt produce a lot of engines. If you already have a 90 size 4 stroke I would use it, Mine weighs 6.5 lbs.

I don't have a YS63 but I do know they still show them in stock at Central Hobbies if you want to try one. I've had a couple of 82 and really love that engine. Mine have been in a UCD46 and Twist. I fly at 4800' elevation. I would be disappointed with anything but 30%. And I think both engines will run on less but thrive on more. I can only run a 14x4W here. Man if I could run a 15x4W I'd be in heaven. But it handles the UCD real good and it was a rocket on the Twist. UCD is 5 lbs 14 ozs. Thanks

Super D & Barry, thanks for the input, what kind of flight time/oz fuel should I expect with the .82? Are we talking 10oz tank, 10 minutes of ripping it up?
