Default OMP BOXXER ENGINE

OK, I'M BUYING AN OMP BOXXER KIT, AND I WAS WONDERING WHAT ENGINE SHOULD I PUT ON IT? I HAVE SAITO 72 FOR IT BUT IT'S A LITTLE TIRE, BUT IT STILLS SWINGS AND APC 14X6 ABOUT 8500. I WAS THINKING ON THE YS 63. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK.
SHOULD I TRY THE SAITO OR GET YS, WITCH SHOULD BE BETTER. IS THIS PLANE LIGTHER THAN A FUNTANA 40?

I want to build one of these and slap a TH .75 in it.

If your stuck on a 4-stroke and the Saito 72 is tired--then buy the lightest one in the 70--80 size and fly it.

Rainery, if your .72 is getting a bit tired, I think the Boxxer might struggle a bit with it. The YS .63 would be a much stronger choice. If you don't mind running a 2 stroke, the OS .50 SX with the Macs Pipe or the Irvine .53 with an Ultrathrust muffler have both proven to be very strong runners on the Boxxer.

If you run into any problems during the build, PM or email me and I'll help any way I can

Adjust your valves and try a 14 X 4 W apc first. If the engine is still poor (was never really snappy) then go for a YS 63. The 63 will put out as much power as the Sato 90 with the advantage of placing your tank on the CG. I have Satos and Ys's and prefer the YS due to power when you need it. The YS needs to be broken in per factory recommendations and cared for properly as any engine. I seldom toutch the needle except for summer/winter weather changes. Some guys at our field needle every flight and ususally never get it right. When its running good, leave it alone unless it askes for a change! Have heard Sato 70's can not be made to idle. I have several of them purchased cheap and tick over as good as any. Learn your engines wants, keep it happy and it will keep you happy. If you really want a great engine, go for the Sport Jett 50 or 60 and find out just how well a 2 stroke will run. Throttle response and idle are beyond belief, great power. My 35 kicks most 46 and 50s buts. Hope the 14 X 4 saves you the cost of a engine for a while longer. You are going to like the prop size. Gives you more control at hover and more thrust to jump out of trouble. By

The Tachometer Readings forum has a thread on Saito 72 performance reported by readers. A quick look shows almost everyone is using a lighter load prop than a 14x6 on the 72. The one guy reporting on the 14x6 was getting 9000 rpm - which is below the rpm for best power with that engine. THe 13x6 reports run 10000 to 11000 rpm. I run 13x6 and 14x4 props on my YS 63 at 11,000rpm. I am sure the 14x6 would be too much load for it . If you use a lower load prop and let the engine rev up to where it produces its best power you may be happier with it.
