I saw both the showtime and the giles fly...
I would have to say the showtime is the way to go, cheaper, 1 whole lb light ther then the giles with the same engine (160 fx with slimline wraparound pitts) and 6 volt batt...
It alos flew better, more crisp, insane high alpha slow SLOW SLOW knife edge...
anyone flew both and have impressions?

I was the one who was flying the prototype of the UL Giles with an OS. 1.60fx and pitts muffler. mine weighed 10lbs flat RTF. The plane is amazing for both 3D and pattern flying. It flys the pattern like a 35%er and 3D's like a foamie.
I have also flown the showtime a bit. it is great for more sporty flying than the Giles. i think it is to heavy for its size where yes the Giles is a pound heavier it also is bigger - 76" . The showtime is a decent overall flying plane, but if you want something that flys like a bigger plane and is more practical for pattern and/or 3D manuevers, go with the Giles.

I disagree, according to Don Szczur Showtime can fly the FAI F3A pattern sequence pretty well. Check the pattern forum here:

It is also a 3D animal and Kyle Woyshnis' video proves that here:

Yes, I would agree that Kyle's video proves that the Showtime is capable of some nice 3D flying. Does anybody know what engine he had in his demo airplane?

Also you said showtime is 1 lb lighter and that's fine and that's about 10% less then the Giles.
The Giles has 200 SQ IN more of wing area and that's about 20% more, plus more side area if you look at the two. So weights may be one thing, but wing loading tells the real story.

You are comparing 2 planes in different sizes. Both will do well in various types of flying given good pilot. Same pilot should do better with precision on a larger plane.

Here is an impression on how the Giles can fly.

The showtime with an os 160 FX with slimline wrap around pitts, & pump comes out to 9.5 lbs, still 1 lb lighter then the giles
with the 160 FX the showtime has about 2.5:1 power to weight

If you want to compare, compare this:
SHowtime w/ ys110 vs giles with 160fx, wing loading won't be a problem their and the plane is 120 dollar then the giles. I compred them because they both look similar. Sounds like you sell the plane so I can't say your post isn't full of bias...

DiscoWings,
I value RCU as a great informational source for this hobby. So here's my question.......
You titled this thread "SHOWTIME VS UL GILES 202?". Then your very first statement....." I SAW......"
So how can you make a comparison and state that a plane flies better and more crisp when you weren't even at the controls??????? Not a good source of accurate information for me.
There really is no valid comparison here as these two planes are really in two different catagories. I don't have either, but a more logical comparison would be something like the Giles vs. the Goldberg Yak......or the Giles vs. Hanger 9 260.......or Showtime vs. 3D Quest.........or Showtime vs. Goldberg Obsession
I look for the facts......just my 2 cents.
I give you credit for a good idea though, this thread.

He has/had a YS-120 SF with a 16x6 Master Airscrew if not mistaken, he had some problems with this engine and sent it for repair.
664KIX I agree Showtime is a an artistic type of airplane where Giles is semiscale type. It's like comparing apples with oranges IMO. Some reasonable comparisons of the Showtime would be with YT International/Modeltech Adrenaline 120, Ultra RC 3D Quest and ZN Line Synergy 90.
160 is too much for the Showtime IMO, I was between a YS-140 and YS-110 and finally went for the 110. If you want a plane for the 160 have a look also at QQ YAK 72' and Chip Hyde CAP X.

I didn't mention how one flies better then the other. Afterall I would only carry the best for my customers.

I have flown both and really flogged them out and to be honest they are 2 completely different planes. The Showtime without the SFGs is a great patternish plane and can do 3-D flying as its smaller wing area will allow it to stall, but the Ultra rc giles truely flies like a 10lb foamy with its light wing loading and yet will fly pattern maneuvers with the best of them. Snaps are fantastic!
But Discowing you never identified the type of plane YOU like to fly to just come out and make that statement. But if you are making a judgement call based on a video you have seen on the net... for instance Chris Maier's Giles demo vs. Kyle Wyonisis' Showtime demo you are completely missing the boat. These are two of the top pilots in the country that can make most any plane dance. I have personally watched Chris hover his piper cub! But that doesn't make it a good pattern or 3-d plane by any means. I suggest trying/begging to fly both first.
good luck!

Hey DiscoDuck, If you think the showtime "flew better, more crisp, insane high alpha slow SLOW SLOW knife edge" Its quite obvious that YOU need to fly the Giles. There's a very rewarding experience waiting for you. The Showtime is a great little plane but the Giles leads in its size/weight class. Just fly it and then tell us if it isnt everything everyone (including myself) has said it was.

I cant belive you are comparing something sport to something scale, no ofense here but the features inthe giles are the same on what you see on big planes, get something scale, look the giles dont need the SFG to fly! this baby flyes all by itself and does all kinds of 3-d stuff this plane it just flyes awesome and will put a big smile on your face,
