My son will enjoy this info much more than my wife will....
As an aside, I tried to join the mini-iac list and was informed that the moderator must approve me getting on....that is funny, to say the least.....

It is only funny because in the past there have been several "trolls" on the list causing lots of problems and headaches for everyone. Doug runs the list fairly and if you want to get on the list, it shouldn't be any problem. There were over 800 members last time I checked.

The part I thought funny, or unusual, is that would not let me even read already posted messages unless I was already a member....
Thus, the info is only usable to members, not the RC community at large.
I expect I'll be added, and all will be well.

Whats the reasoning for going back to back years?
I think this is a mistake, many of the top fliers compete at the Worlds in pattern which is next summer in mid august only leaving a short time for a lot of guys to switch gears and get going for the TOC, not an easy thing to do I would imagine. I think running every year takes some of the hugeness (lack of a better word
) out of the event.
Dont get me wrong I like the TOC, I just think it should be a 2-year cycle event.

"Ever"? How do we know that?
Apparently Mrs. Bennet, wife of Bill Bennet who sponsored the event this many years, said that she "decided not to continue the tournament."
There is probably more detail, but not public, so far.
If another sponsor came forward, it could continue, but until then....

I would think someone else will step up to replace the Bennetts involvement. I think the manufacturers should pool their resources and put it on.

Keep in mind that most or all of the workers making the TOC a success at the event itself were Sahara hotel employees....
Food, security, etc....And I would suspect that the food tent etc., also comes from the hotel.
I am not sure I see one manufacturer sponsoring it themselves....
But, I've been wrong before...And hope I am now.

Yeah, its really a flagship event, all the technology learnt was filtering down into the hobby one way or the other and it gave a look at the ultimate goal for us all... (all, I mean aerobatic pilots)... to fly a TOC plane! maybe it can continue, but without the high prize money, after all it was a battle of pride for most of the pilots.
