Default harrier 46

I`ve just ordered a harrier 46. has anybody tried that plane. have done some searching but find mostly stuff about the 90 harrier, or very old and not so informative posts about the 46 harrier. I am thinking to put my asp xls 52 on it. runs 13300 rpm on the 12,25/3,75 apc, so its very strong. I have read the posts about this engine" hunk of junk" but it runs and trottles just fine on my testbench,so I`ll give it a go. also have a magnum 91 fourstroke, but believe that will be a tad to heavy for the harrier 46. have anyone tried that combo? I have just started 3-d flying and is able to hover my razzle for about 15-20 sec at a time on a regular basis, and I hope that the harrier will be even easier to hover and do other 3-d flying than the razzle. any input will be greatly apreciated. thanks

The ASP 52 will be great for that plane - I've used the same combination. Far from being a "Hunk of Junk" I think the ASP 52 is a powerful and easy to handle engine - I have two of them. It will pull the Harrier up out of sight very quickly with that prop. I used a 13 x 4, which also worked well.

The four stroke will be a bit too much and is unnecessary weight. I have flown that plane with the ASP 61 four stroke (okay, but a bit slow out of the vertical) and a JEN 56 (not as good as the ASP and a b1tch to tune).

Stick with the 52 - it's a good match for the plane.

well i have one with a evolution 46 and it flies great hovers at almost full throtle but if you quit one elevator servo and adding an elevator to elevator wire is a very good weight removal, and using hs-55 on throtle. that will be good

Yeah, you are right - there's quite a lot of servos for a fairly small model...

What different between the Magnum Hunk of Junk 52 and the ASP 52? I had the Magnum and it was truly a hunk of true junk. It was an on/off type engine. Great top power, but I crashed too many times trying to midrange that engine. I thought ASP and Magnum were the same? Maybe the carb is different? I know the head is different color. Maybe a different head, thus different shim?

Before you fly it, go to 1/3 throttle for a minute, and throttle up, to see if it will quit. Just an advise.

thanks, I will do that. on my teststand it runs great, but I will know for sure when I have it in the plane and run it with the nose up. I have sealed up the carb and the screws that hold it in place and my lowend needle is a little more than 1/2 out from closed, as adviced somewere in the forums. people seem to either love or hate this engine.I hope to love mine Here in norway my lhs says the magnum, sc and asp are identical. They just have different names for sales in different countries. my asp 52 reads the same rpm as the magnum with the blue head. I think the blue head is for cosmetics.the asp is 115$ and the magnum with the blue head is 172$ here in norway. I envy you the prices in usa.

Guys,

New to 3D and have a Harrier 46 and a new OS 46 AX. What is a good prop size to start with? Am I looking for something with a lower pitch?

12/4 or 12,25/3,75. a friend of mine has a os 46 fx with the baffle removed and it runs 11900 rpm on the 12,25 apc prop, thats pretty strong for a 46. both these props will be good for 3-d

Yes, I thought ASP and Magnum were the same, but clearly not because I've had no trouble with my two ASP 52s. They are very powerful for the weight, and easy to start - a black flip by hand usually does it after a choke. Can be alittle sensitive on idle adjustment, but not too critical...

I run mine on 5% nitro, OS No. 8 and 12x6 or 13x4 APCs depending on the model - also seems to go well on the 12x6 Zinger.

Very good, inexpensive engines.
