Alright guys... my recent attraction to smoke has peaked my interest and i bought a sullivan skywriter... I'm going to put it in my funtana with a ys 110.... I know it might take some work to get it to work right, but i'm giving it a shot.. i have 2 questions for the experianced smoke users out there:
1) I think i need to tap the threaded section of the exaust where it comes out of the engine... i know the longer its in the muffler the more chance it has to heat up... so can i tap that threaded part and put a nipple there? not sure about this part, but i don't want to pay big bucks for the slimline muffer, so give me your thoughts...
2) i've heard a lot about different smoke liquid blends but today i heard of a clear one called texaco almac???? anyway its supposedly sold in a 5 gallon thing and works pretty good according to a guy i know... just wondering where to get it... if you've heard of it, help me out here, or reccomend your own blends.... looking for something cheap that isn't just dirty diesel.
thanks

Check out this video, it is not my site, I stumbled across it a while back, makes some nice smoke without even using a pump.

I'll do my best to anwser these for you
You are partially correct here. The main reason is you want the tap at the hottest part of the exhaust which is right where it comes out of the head
Never heard of it and if you find it please let me know. I'll give it a shot
Do not put it inline with the flight pack, use a seperate battery. If you forget to turn off the pump after it runs out of oil then you will kill the flight pack. Plus the amount of amp draw between the pump and servos could eat it alive. I've also heard that it can cause interfence
Slimline makes a great smoke muffler for that engine if you want to spend the extra bucks. Figure you will use approx. 1.5 to 2 ounce of smoke fluid per minute. Most people use a seperate tank that is half the size of the fuel tank and use the smoke to only enhance certain maneuvers. Figure a total of 6 to 12 ounces extra between the pump, tubing, battery, and tank but NOT including smoke fluid so be very careful of balance. Since you own the Funtana and assuming we are talking about the F90 then you already know how sensitive it is to CG changes. The best way is to put the smoke tank over the CG but in the Funtana you can't do that so you'll have to place it right in front of the wing tube.

ah, one more question.... can i run the pump off my battery pack, or do most people get a seperate one to power the pump?

ok, been reading more tonight... I want to do the preheat system, but i'm not sure what type of tubing to use (that would transfer the best heat) and somehow i'd have to weld it around the muffler and then weld it into the exaust.... so whats a good flexible metal tubing i could use? what about the copper stuff people use for fuel tanks??? this'll be the tough part... if anybodys got photos of a preheat system that would be awesome...

can anyone else post pictures of their 4 stroke mufflers tapped for smoke? I need some more info here... i just took my ys 110's muffler apart and it has this special washer with 5 holes punched though it... just wondering if it would be ok to run the smoke before that stuff. gee wish i could post pictures, it won't seem to let me do it.
