ZDZ 80 mounting in AW 31% Extra
Hello all, My winter project is the Aeroworks 31% Extra that I am currently building. My question is which mounting method would you guys recommend? Standoffs for the motor, or drill the firewall for the carb to go through. I have not started the motor box so I could do either, just looking for the pro's and con's. I would also love to hear from anyone else with this combo. Thanks.

EJB built 2 of these planes with the ZDZ-80 single. He mounted the motor directly to the motor box. No reason to add extra parts with standoffs. Mounting direct is more rigid (less vibration) and cheaper. The light one weighed 23 lbs and has outstanding performance.

AJF--2:
You must be talking about a different plane.
The AW 31% Extra kit has been available for over a year.
It's 98" span - smaller version of the Somenzini 37% Extra with 3D control surfaces.

ZDZ 80 mounting in AW 31% Extra
Hey Diablo
I have the 31% Extra with the new 3W 106. It weighs 26lbs and flies great. I can't seem to get the plane to do a harrier very well. I programmed airbrakes to help with the wing wobble but every time I bump the throttle it wants to stop flying and pivot vertically into a torque roll. How does your buddy's fly and harrier... Thanks
PS: The 106 is one bad engine. Throttle response and Spool up time with a Menz 28x10 are the same as my old 3w100 on the Menz 26x10 and the 106 only has 3 galloons through it. :boxing:

I couldn't really tell you about the 3D performance because EJB doesn't fly 3D....yet. From flying my H9 Cap though, I would say that the harrier is all about elevator throw and CG. You might have to increase your elevator throw (first thing to try) and/or move your CG to the rear.
The Extra performs very well for sequence flying, great exits from snaps.
