I have been flying Rc since 1992, just sport flying, ( Kaos, Cessna's , ect. ), well I just wanted to express how happy I am with my Hitec Eclipse 7 computer radio, I just recently put together a Hangar 9 Twist and Im learning 3D from a good friend of mine, well Im just amazed what this radio can do, especially for the price. Does anyone else out there agree ? Ive always been a big fan of Hitec, but getting into these Hi rates , landing features , ect.. So cool !

Where have you been??? Those features are as old as time. Its a awesome radio for planes up to 1.20 size (sport/3D flying), but if your wanting to do a lot of advanced mixing then your out of luck. I have two of them.

Agreed... I loved mine until I tried to do advanced mixing, setup airplanes with multiple servos per surface and especially multiple servos on the elevators... The latency between channels is just too high and one surface always lagged behind it's mate... Also, the gimbals on the Eclipse 7 have very little feel to them...
Some folks at our club call the E7 w/Spectra Module the "Dial a Crash"... I had some airplanes that had the "jitters" when I used the E7... I just thought it was normal to take a hit every now and then... Once I switched radios, the jitters went away...
Switched to a JR 10X and the difference (as you would expect) was night & day...
Not trying to be hard on the E7 as it's a good sport flying radio, but ....

I have one laser six for training purposes and three E-Clipse Sevens. I have had flawless performance out of all of them. I agree the Seven does have some limitations, (wish it had nine channels), however for the price and the features it has you can't beat it in my opinion.

So farr it has been an excelent radio for me to but I have my complaints, Like not being able to setup duel elevator servos, and my biggest complaint is the tiny 7model memery, I have 13 planes all flying and no space for any of them.
So in about a month im switching to a JR9303.
Other then that its an awsome radio till you start getting into larger aircraft.

i've had my eclipse 7 for 5 years and fly .46 to .91 glow airplanes, zenoah g-62 gas powered 81" sukhoi 29 and century hawk helicopter with it. its a good radio for the money but has too many programing limitations, no enough model memory and the stick feel is not very good. Plus i found out my flight condition switch doesnt work(bad switch). if i had it to do all over again i should have bought the JR 8103 or 10x at that time. when i can afford it my next radio will be a JR 9303 or Futaba 9 series.

I wonder when Hitech will listen??? They have great products, they just need to put a good 10ch. radio out there, and upgrade the stuff the radios are made of. A slightly stronger plastic would be nice. We can buy all of the 5995 servos in the world but on those nice 40% airplanes we cant use their radio.

yah where have you been. every computer radio can probably do what that one do and most of the same # of channels can do more now.
Like the 7cap or JR xp6102.
I think that you need to blow $$$ on a 9303 and then you wont know what to say you will be so happy.

Hitec's version of PCM sucks big-time too.
Not only does it offer 1990's level resolution (512 steps, versus 1024 or even 2048 from JR and Futaba) but they've had some really bad PCM receivers come out of the factory which don't work very well at all and have to be returned to Hitec for replacement.
Complaints about the strength of the cases is another valid point -- the handle fell off my Optic 6 last weekend because the molding is *really* thin and narrow -- insufficiently strong to cope with regular stresses and loads.
The Eclipse is also a very *old* physical design. The engine-cut switch can't be operated without taking your fingers off the sticks (great if your gear won't come down and you're on final approach so need to cut the motor to do a gear-up landing). There are no finger-operated sliders for the extra channels so (again) you have to take your fingers off the sticks to adjust flaps or other settings associated with channels 6 or 7 by twiddling knobs that are surrounded by other switches -- making them very hard to use.
From an electronic perspective -- the E7 lacks dual elevator capabilities, won't suport the increasingly common two-servo ailerons on a power model without a 6-channel receiver, won't allow you to adjust the engine trim when using any flight condition other than the default, has limited model-memories, won't show the model name without pressing buttons about four times every time you select a new model, etc, etc.
I have an E7 and an O6 and, while they're fine transmitters, my next one will almost certainly be a Futaba 9C, for all the reasons stated above and more.

I have had one problem with mine.
The pins that the module plugs into on the back pushed out of their solder joint.
A little finesse with the soldering pin and wa laa, all better.
I've been useing mine for 2 yrs now on all my 3D stuff, and have no complaints.

I posted in the radio forum concerning information request on the evo 12. Like I said before I'm very happy with my Eclipse units however as others have said, I'm to the point I feel I need some more channels.

Yep my case is broke too and I have never dropped it, just from wear and tear. I ordered a 9C today with the PCM, and 149 receiver. I plan on keeping my Eclipse for my profiles and small 3D birds. But the 9C will go into all of my 50cc and larger planes (which is growing at a rapid pace). Of course I also ordered 6 5955 servos b/c you cant beat the value of those.

I have had my Eclipse 7 for 1 year now. It works pretty good but a few weeks ago I was standing in front of my Funtana 90 (engine running) and the eye hole where the neck strap hooks in, pulled out! The nut came off from the back. It had no lock washer, lock-nut or anything other than a regular sloppy nut on the back of the stud. The transmitter fell face first in the dirt and My funtana went full throttle. I barely grabbed the plane without getting chopped up. It was very close. Anyway, I am still using the darn thing. Can someone explain why I can't use two elevator servos with this radio? I am ditching the reversing y-harness and going to try mixing it on the radio. Is this not possible?

its most definitely possible dakster1a and you have 6 choices to mix the elevator servos...5 programable mixers or the ailv option. the ailv option appears on the menu between the flpn and epa...very last option before hitting epa again. havent tried any of the 5 mixers, but the ailv is slick and works great.
i got my radio last dec and the instruction manual had absolutely nothing in it about the ailv function so someone along the hitec way screwed up not putting in in there altho it is in the radio and i am using it on two airplanes...
ive been meaning to write hitec about the omission but it hasnt been a priority...cringe...
hope this helps...

Fantastic! Others said that you can not do this, (maybe different circumstances like not enough channels) I will give it a try today. Thanks

30 minutes of experimenting and I got it! I set the master as channel 2 and the slave as channel 6 and a flip of the switch in the upper right hand of the transmitter and I have reversing servos operating my elevators. Thanks for your help!!!!!!!!!!!!

right on brother!
you gotta be pretty sharp to do it in 30 minutes...
computers and me get along as well as the democrats and republicans do in the house....
so it takes me a helluva lot longer to figure out this stuff...
have fun...and im glad i was of some help..
take care...

It took longer to adjust the linkage on the 2nd elevator half than it did to program the radio. Maybe I just got lucky. I do not plan to use a reversing y-harness again unless I absolutely have to.

Like I said in other post on programming the Eclipse for dual elevators. It can be done but its a pain in the butt. AND its not perfect. If you put a 3D meter on there its near impossible to get it to be perfect.
