That thing is 75pounds![X(] How is that thing build such that his girl can step in and out of the cockpit?[&:] He was talking about how different it is to fly having a lot of mass. This thing must be significantly bigger than the first 50% edge he had? [&:]

Thats very cool. And I'm a guy too. Bigger and more powerful is always better. I've got "Tim Allen Syndrome" just like a lot of you guys. More HP, Faster, ARGH ARGH ARGH!!!
But, I can't help but marvel at the stupidity of modern man. It's only a matter of time before some complete moron actually puts his kid inside one of these monsters and flies it with the kid inside.
Ya oughta have to pass an intelligence test to breed.
My comments are NOT directed at Bill Hempel. Not at all. I though it was cool as all-get-out when his little daughter was inside it while starting the engine, and then she steps out. Very neat. And I KNOW that he didn't fly it with her inside--and that he wouldn't.
But, some day--some where, some idiot is going to try it and kill his kid.
But, I can't help but marvel at the stupidity of modern man. It's only a matter of time before some complete moron actually puts his kid inside one of these monsters and flies it with the kid inside.

The cool factor bar has just been raised. The engine alone weighs 18 lbs. 3W-342iB2 is spec'd @ 30 HP. Thats a plane I would like to see up close. Joe

I thought it was funny as hell when she poped open the canopy and said "get me otta here". Must have been loud in there. I showed my kids and they loved it.
Also she just kind of jumped out, man that thing must be strong. To pull 10 g's I suppose I'd have to be.

I didn't get the part about Chip Hyde either. They were laughing and giggleing and he said something about Chip. Maybe Chip helped build or design the plane? Would be interesting to know what all the snickering was about.

I thought that he said there was a chip in the pipe and thats why the engine died but then again I dont know why they'd be laughing. Gosh Id love to hear that plane do a low wot pass in person. That plane sounded like a ferrari when it flew over I wonder how loud it is in person.

Hi Guys!
The 52% Edge 540 flies great. I got this plane from ACM in Louisiana, they no longer produce the kit though. I finished the plane in December of 05 and had a few freinds take it to California for the AMA trade show in Ontario, California. the airplane was transported there and back without damage. As a joke my 'freinds' put a Chip Hyde decal on the bottom of the plane. they wanted to see how long it took for me to find it. the decale was 1" tall in RED vinal. Well, I never saw it until after the first flight. As you can tell in the video, i was pretty surprised to find it there. The camera man and a few feinds there to watch the test flight were the same 'freinds' that took the plane to California. They wer just as surprised as I was because they forgot they had put the decal on the plane. Anyway everything was done in "FUN". Apparently Chip's Yak has my name on it somewhere as well!

Bill, great job on the maiden. Glad to see that you took it 'easy' first time up. Video production is top notch. Don't get to many events, but that is one plane I would like to see in person. How does one get your schedule of events that you will be flying at? Thanks in advance. Joe
