From: north aurora, IL,
has anyone seen the new arf stingers on tower? almost every size is in aft form now. how would you rate them as far a being able to hover and do things like flat spin? i was looking at the 1.20 of the giant size.

There is a Giant Stinger at our field flying with a G62. It'll hover, but the pilot doesn't have enough elevator throw to do flat spins. I got the chance to fly it and it is a big, fun-flying plane with no bad habits.

a guy at my field has a Giant with a G62. He's an awesome pilot and it'll do anything he can throw at it. But I don't think it the best plane for a waterfall. Jordan

I have the stinger 120 with a Moki 180 glow engine on it. It is a fine plane but there are better options for 3d training. The stinger is relatively heavy. I first built mine with the long wing (80 inches) and have since chopped it off about 9 inches each end. My favorite plane in this size range is the Morris Giant su-do-Khoi. This is a very good plane to learn to hover. Another good choice is the Aero-works Extra 300L profile. I have had them both. I'm not sure if these planes are available in ARF form. Mine were built from kits, and they are moderate to advanced builders kits.

I know superdave118 is asking about the Stinger ARF, but I too had a G62 powered giant stinger. Giant Stingers are nice, BIG airplanes. This was my first gasser and I liked it. Flew nice, great power and could hover all day but not really do the rest of the "3D" stuff. The plane flies really really well, but it is a little heavy. That big hershey bar wing will do alot of slow speed stuff and the plane lands like a feather.
I always like the flying of my big stinger but I never liked the look. Too much plastic, non-scale lines, etc...

I've been flying my giant stinger for about 6 years and really like flying it. Tons of fun to fly. It has a G62 and a 20x8 prop. The motor is a little lower thats why I can't use a bigger prop. It hovers easy and just stand there and can accerate out of a hover. I put flaperons in mine and it flatspins now like a top.
