I've got the Lanier Cap 232 21st Century ARF. I've got it assembled. Just need to place batteries. The manual says balance cg on the wing spar and it should lean toward the nose 10 degrees. I'm not sure how I'd measure 10 degrees.
I'd like to know what people are flying their CG on this plane? Thanks.

You mind reader aftcg!
I was going to post the same question in a couple days.
My Lanier Cap has been a couple hours from flying for months. Put it on the bench the other day to finish it and now comes the final balance.
What power plant do you have on the nose?
I have a Tartan Twin on alcohol, should pull it fine if I can keep it in fuel.
Had to split the cowl to get it in and it is pretty tight. I am somewhat worried about overheating. The motor was in a midwest cap and there were no problems but I think the cowl was wider.

Most all airframes are balanced in the 25-30% range as measured from the front of the leading edge...
Measure the chord at the root of the wing, near the fuse.
If the wing is 19-1/2" at the chord factor 30% to err on the safe side. 30% would be 5.85" back from the LE.
Caps are well known to fly with a wide range of "CG". Error on the nose heavy side initially. A tail heavy Cap can be a handful...

Mike, I've put in a 3W70iF. It's on the heavy side (4lbs 9oz engine plus muffler). It was difficult getting in cowl as well.
I should do first-flight 2/2/02. Good luck on yours.

The manual says the wing tube for CG but I have read 1" in front of the tube for non-3D flying. The newer manual may be clearer.......I got one of the first ones out.
mglavin, how right you are! A tail heavy Cap can be a handful...!!!
My Hanger9 25% made a few flights after I played with the CG.
I left it a tad tail heavy but there is a point when to tail heavy where the elevator is almost uncontrolable
It was a puckerer for a few minutes
aftcg I can't remember the wieght for the Tartan, I "think" it was around 4 lbs/exhaust

On a similar note.....how did your models balance out?
I'm putting a ZDZ40 in mine and I still have a bit of work to do but it sure seems like its going to be tail heavy. I hate adding weight to a model but it seems like I'll have to.

As previously stated, Put the CG 1" in front of the leading edge of the tube to start with, moving it back incrementally as you beging to understand the flying characteristics.
Enjoy!
Enjoy!
