I downloaded a freestyle Edge 540 for RealFlight G2 the other day to practice with so I don't destroy my edge as part of my learning process.
I noticed that the plane I downloaded has the ailerons mixed with the elevators. I.E. when the elevators deflect up, both ailerons deflect up and when the elevators deflect down, both ailerons deflect down. What's this called? What's it for? What's it do? In a word: WHY?

I dont think theres a name for it, probally is... Just a mix of up elevator and spoilerons (both ailerons up) and vise versa. What it does is make for a very sharp turn going vertical. So it makes doing square loops really square. It could probally help doing very impressive waterfalls. There is probally more help you could get from other people but, for what i know thats what its for..

What you have is essentially "Pop-Up" Spoilerons...should make your WALLS and PARACHUTES quite spectacular.
FLAPERONS - Ailerons that also function as flaps...they deploy down. Each aileron must have its own servo to do this. Usually part of the setup with a computer radio. Can be used to slow landing speed or give more lift for take-off. Usually tied to a switch or knob.
SPOILERONS - Ailerons that also functions as Spoilers...they deploy up. Usually a mix with Elevator to tighten loops, perform better Walls, Parachutes, or Waterfalls. Sometimes deployed only after 50% throw of the Elevator for 3D effect only.
ELEVONS - For an aircraft that is essentially a flying wing. The Elevators perform the function of ailerons as well.
CROW - Need separate servos for ailerons and flaps ...enables you to combine a spoileron/flaperon effect at the same time. Can virtually elevator straight down with this function.
