MDS48 heli engine problems.
Angelo, you may have problems because of the heli head, it does not allow enough heat build up to keep the engine happy, try shaving it down to a regular plane engine size head. On the other hand, I've had two MDS48 engines in a twin, never had a landing with both engines running ha ha. There is a fella at the field with one, and he seems to be happy with it, so I guess it's a crapshoot. They do take a long time to break in though, and can cause much headaches during that time, and some times after as well.

DKJens,
That twin story is funny. At our club MDS stands for "More Dead Sticks" Every newcomer goes to the shop and buys the Ultra Easy with a MDS .40. We've done everything to these engines. They just wont run, well at least for a whole flight!
Dont get me started on the More Dead Stick 1.48 that took 3 months break in plus hassle with Horizon to wait 3 more months on a new carb to finally make it run. AAHAHAH I'll never buy another one!!!!

NO dead sticks anymore, well I just fllew the TopCap today and its just getting better and better<i was hovering the plane about 3-4 feet from the ground,And Im just starting to hover.I would not do that if the engine was not running right.
It does take a long time to break in ,Probably close to 3/4 of a gallon, but after that, and proper tuning thay are AWESOME.I'm not having any problems with the Heli head,it does help keep it cooler,P.S. I live in PuertoRico(90 degrees, :sunsmiley 90%humidity)

One of the guys in my club and I bought MDS 58 engines and they ran great. His was on a Diamond Dust and I have had mine on several planes, fun fly and patern, and after seeing how ours ran several other guys bought them. Non of the other engines ran very good at all and were totally unreliable. I read in a magazine that quality control at the Russian MDS factory isn't very good and either you get a good one or you get a piece of junk.
